DONCASTER – SATURDAY

1.50pm

Liosduin Bhearna

Things haven’t quite gone to plan this season and he hasn’t been seen out since falling at Haydock in November. He took a bit of a kick there, so that is why he has had a break. But he has done loads of schooling since, and is in great form. He was obviously a really progressive sort last season, he stays this trip and he will absolutely love the testing ground. I’d be quite keen on his chances.

2.25pm

Gino Trail

He is clearly getting on a bit as a 13yo and clearly didn’t shine on his most recent start back in October, but he has joined us since and hopefully a change of scenery can perk up the old boy. You will never know for sure if he still retains plenty of his old ability until we race him but he seems in great form at home and he is certainly slipping down the weights. He loves this ground too, so let’s hope he retains something like his old talent. If he does, then he has an obvious chance of a mark of 146, though he is taking on some horses half his age. He is in great form and bursting for a run.

3.00pm

Ziggy Rose

She has a fair bit to find at these weights, but hopefully she can get some black type in this Listed race. I haven’t ridden her before but she is going the right on the evidence of her second at Ludlow last time, and 3m in soft ground clearly suits.

HUNTINGDON – SUNDAY

2.50pm

Out The Glen

I rode him when he won over course and distance on good ground on his return, and he proved he can handle testing conditions when following up off a 4lb higher mark on heavy at Ffos Las last time. He has gone up another 7lb and this is obviously a very competitive handicap, but hopefully he hasn’t stopped improving yet.

3.25pm

Lies About Milan

He has shown plenty of ability in his two starts over hurdles, but chasing is where his future lies. He won his only point, and I’d like to think he can make his presence felt here on his chasing debut, particularly as the race has cut up to just three runners. I know he has something to find at these weights but I was keen to come here as I think the testing ground, which he will love, promises to be a real leveller.  He is made for a fence at 17 hands-plus.
