MD2 Something for the Weekend

Player to score – Bryan Mbeumo (Fulham v Man Utd)

Manchester United produced an encouraging performance against Arsenal on opening weekend of the new Premier League season, but still suffered defeat. Bryan Mbeumo was a threat for Ruben Amorim’s team and will be a danger in the final third as United visit Craven Cottage to take on Fulham on Sunday.

Antonee Robinson is still sidelined through injury for the Cottagers which could leave Fulham somewhat vulnerable on Mbeumo’s side of the pitch. United have still to show they can play with a cutting edge in front of goal, but Mbeumo has looked lively to start the season. He could open his account this weekend.

Over 2.5 total goals – Levante v Barcelona

Barcelona matches have a habit of being chaotic. Even as Hansi Flick’s started their title defence with a comfortable 3-0 win over Mallorca last weekend, there were two red cards that warped the game as a whole. The Catalans will fancy their chances of claiming another emphatic win against Levante.

There has been over 2.5 goals in 15 of the last 18 meetings between Levante and Barcelona in all competitions, suggesting this weekend’s match could be a spectacle. Levante suffered a 2-1 loss to Alaves on opening weekend, but could pose a threat to Barca’s high line in quick transition.

Match to be a draw – Everton v Brighton

Everton start life at their new stadium this weekend, but their underwhelming performance against Leeds United suggested it might take some time for the Toffees to get going this season. David Moyes’ side struggled for attacking threat at Elland Road. Jack Grealish could make a difference from the start.

Brighton also struggled to find their best form on opening weekend, drawing 1-1 at home to Fulham. Sunday’s match could be a meeting between two uncertain teams with most of the focus on the occasion of the opening of Hill Dickinson Stadium. A draw could be on the cards.

Both teams to score – Man City v Tottenham

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will meet this weekend looking to build on emphatic victories to open the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Spurs have endured a challenging week after missing out on the signing of Eberechi Eze, but the likes of Richarlison and Mohamed Kudus will pose a threat at the Etihad Stadium.

There has been over 2.5 goals in 15 of the last 15 matches between City and Spurs at the Etihad Stadium. Tottenham will set up to play in quick transition which could expose Manchester City’s high defensive line. This could be an entertaining encounter with both sides capable of hurting one another.

Graham’s Fourfold

Like the sound of Graham’s picks? Why not roll them into a fourfold? £10 on the selections above potentially returns £210.

NEWCASTLE vs LIVERPOOL

Newcastle United and Liverpool face each other on Monday night with the two rivals doing battle off the pitch too. Alexander Isak will play no part in the match as he attempts to force through a transfer to the Premier League champions. There will be an edge to this game. It could be fiery.

The Magpies lost just five games at home last season with St James’ Park one of the toughest away venues in the Premier League. Liverpool have the strongest forward line in the division, but they have lacked the right defensive balance in their first two outings of the new campaign.
