NEWBURY – FRIDAY
12:10
Jet Powered (Nico De Boinville)
He’s from the Irish Point to Point field who won very impressively on his only run and was subsequently purchased by Joe Donnelly. Everything he has shown has been very good and he is a very exciting prospect.
12:45
Balco Coastal (Nico De Boinville)
We have always thought a great deal of him and he was a very smart hurdler, but he’s built to jump fences and I must admit I’m very much looking forward to seeing how far up the ladder he can go in the novice division. His schooling has been excellent and I’m happy now the rain has really got into the ground. It’s quite likely he’ll get further but this looks an ideal starting point and he could end up top class.
1:20
Russian Ruler (Nico De Boinville)
He was pretty good last season but it was no point losing his novice status for winning a small race somewhere, hence he ran in the Dovecote; if he’d won that, fair enough because it’s a decent prize to win, but he remains a novice for this season and I think we’ll have plenty of fun with him. I don’t think he’ll have any problems with the step up in trip, in fact I’d suggest he’ll be better for it and he has a serious chance.
2:30
Caribean Boy (Daryl Jacob)
He might not be the most consistent but has a big engine and he appears to have plenty in his favour here. Two and a half miles first time out will suit and he’s fit and ready to go.
3:05
Champ (Jonjo O’Neill Jnr)
I was deliberating whether to go straight to Ascot for the Long Walk but he’s in such good form and this race comes at the right time so it was a no brainer to run. He came here for a gentle gallop under AP a couple of weeks ago which will have put him spot on and he goes well fresh so has lots of ticks in the right boxes.
3:40
Steal A March (Nico De Boinville)
He is a lovely person who did well during the summer and is quickly developing into a smart horse. He’s off a career high mark but stays well and has a solid each way chance.
