THE Golden Globes is now in its 76th year, and the cheeky rascal shows no signs of growing old gracefully as another night of shocks rocks a night seen as many as one of the firmest indicators of Oscar glory.
The accolades for excellence in TV and film achievement are bestowed by 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association the day before the Oscar nominations voting begins and its thought that many members of the academy may have their opinions swayed by yesterday’s results.
A Star is Born was the overwhelming favourite for the Best Picture award, but Bohemian Rhapsody, the rank outsider, got the win! The biographical movie about the rock band Queen and their genius frontman Freddie Mercury's life was such a smash hit that Rami Malek, who plays Freddie, also won Best Actor.

Speaking of actors, there was an awkward moment as the event planners decided to seat Idris Elba next to Daniel Craig. The British star of hits such as Luther, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Avengers: Infinity War, and Molly's Game is hotly tipped to be the next James Bond,
Just these two awards alone will have ramifications throughout the whole of the Oscars. Take Roma, for instance: the Netflix film won Best Foreign Film last night and given just how badly A Star is Born fared, now must be considered a player in the Best Picture category.
So, let’s take a look at yesterday’s results and see what’s 'hot or not' in the race for the Oscars.
Golden Globes 2019 Major Winners
- Best Picture – Drama – Bohemian Rhapsody
- Best Picture – Comedy/Musical – Green Book
- Best Actor – Drama – Rami Malek
- Best Actress – Drama – Glenn Close
- Best Actor – Musical/Comedy – Christian Bale
- Best Actress – Musical/Comedy – Olivia Colman
- Best Director – Alfonso Cuaron
Rami Malek's performance astonished Freddie Mercury’s bandmates, who felt the actor was inhabiting Mercury. “We sometimes forgot he was Rami,” said Queen’s lead guitarist, Brian May.

HOT – On the up
Bohemian Rhapsody – 11/2 | Priced at a staggering 50/1 yesterday, it's safe to say the Queen biopic could well be singing "We are the Champions" come the Oscars
Green Book – 9/2 | A surprising night as the film took Best Screenplay, but the 'creeper' is still a solid bid for glory.
Rami Malek – 11/20 | The Freddie Mercury effect! From rank outsider to odds-on favourite!

Lukewarm – As you were
Mary Poppins Returns – 50/1 | Emily Blunt's modern take of the classic stays at the same price, but many feel there could be a run as the Oscars draws nearer
Roma – 6/4 | Alfonso Cuaron won for directing last night but failed in the Best Picture award. The first Netflix film to be nominated remains favourite, but the doubts are creeping in!
Black Panther – 25/1 | The Marvel epic was snubbed in all three nominations last night, but despite this, prices remain constant: "They are wise"

COLD – On the decline
A Star is Born – 11/4 | Another Hollywood classic remade that failed, winning just one of its FIVE bids. Expect Hollywood royalty to remain loyal, however.
Viggo Mortensen – 20/1 | A real contender yesterday the Dane drifted after a poor reception at the Golden Globes
Felicity Jones – 50/1 | The star of On the Basis of Sex will feel frustrated and unfulfilled after a night to forget at the Golden Globes! A major drift for one thought a contender.
