SATURDAY 8 OCTOBER
YORK
2:05 Listed Rockingham Stakes
Miami Girl (Pat Dobbs)
She ran a fantastic race at Naas last time and has come out of it in good shape. I’m pleased with how she looks in her coat because it’s hard for fillies at this time of year, when it gets colder, but she’s in good shape and this could be a nice opportunity. The ground should be fine and I’d give her a solid each way shout at pretty good odds.
Mehme (Martin Harley)
She’s getting better with each race and saw out the trip really well at Newmarket last time. This is obviously a stiffer test but there should be plenty of pace on and I’ve no doubt she’ll be doing her best work late on. She’s already worth plenty as a broodmare, being a full sister to Mehmas, but it would nevertheless be nice to grab some valuable Black Type and she isn’t out of it.
3:15 Handicap
Gisburn (Pat Dobbs)
I was delighted with his run at Haydock last time, back over six, and he deserves to get his head back in front after some solid efforts this season. It’s a step back up in grade, and a competitive handicap, but he’s in good spirits at home and should hopefully run his race again.
3:50 Maiden
King Sharja (Pat Dobbs)
He’s a very, very nice colt by Kingman from a lovely family and has done everything right at home. I’ve been wanting to run him for quite a while but I didn’t want to risk him on firm ground, so we decided to wait for some rain, which hopefully will be enough to provide a bit of cut. He’ll come on for the experience but I’d like to think he has a bright future and won’t be far away.
CHELMSFORD
5:25
Ower Starlight (Liam Keniry)
He’s still a maiden but probably ran his best race last time and the handicapper has dropped him another 2lbs. It’s a very poor race but if he backs up his latest effort he might have a small chance.
Mammasaidknockuout (Alec Voikhansky)
She won an All Weather Handicap off 63 as a two-year-old but is now down to a very modest mark of 46, and with Alec’s 7lbs claim she has to be very well treated! However, she’s been struggling since and you couldn’t back her with confidence.
6:30
Keep Right On (Alec Voikhansky)
He’s not very consistent and has only managed one win from 20 starts, but on a going day he’s more than capable of making his presence felt and he hated the ground at Ffos Las last time so will be much happier back on the All Weather. I wouldn’t entirely rule him out here.
