IT'S day two of the Punchestown Festival and we head back there with five runners today and here are my thoughts on them.

3.40

Conron (Conor Orr)

He’s a nice horse, which won well on the flat at Clonmel twelve days ago and while he has a good bit of weight to carry, (11st 11lbs), he is a big strong horse and that won’t bother him. He has been in great form since and I’ve had this race in mind for him for a while. We have two good riders booked and in all these big field races here, you need a bit of luck of running. The ground will be fine for him, as will the trip and I think he’s capable of running a big race. He is a dual course winner and he ticks a lot of boxes.

Press Conference (Sean O’Keefe)

He hasn’t run since Christmas when he won his maiden at Limerick. We have been waiting on soft ground for him and the rain that arrived yesterday will be a big help to him. I just hope that he has enough experience for a big field handicap like this. Sean O’Keefe is great value for his claim and has had to miss a good bit of the season due to injury and it’s great to be able to give him a good ride like this at the festival.

The Holy One (Robert Power)

He displayed a great attitude when he won last week at Fairyhouse and he has bounced out of that race in great form. Ideally, he’d prefer better ground, but there isn’t a lot we can do about that, so he’ll take his chance. This is a great series of races and it’s great to have the final on here at Punchestown. Our horse is a bit wrong with a few in the race, but he is in very good form. I’d say Zero Ten could be the one to beat – he was second in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse last month. Our horse has improved this year and he’ll run his race. Whether he is good enough, I am not sure, but we’ll give it a go.

7.10

Jett (Robert Power)

He has developed into a good servant this season. He won well last week at Fairyhouse, where be beat some good horses. He got a 9lb penalty for winning the last day, but it’s the end of the season and it’s a very good pot, so he’ll take his chance and see how he gets on. We haven’t done much with him since Fairyhouse, but he seems fine. He has top weight, but he won’t mind the ground and two and a half miles is a good trip for him.

7.45

Coromandel Lady (Finny Maguire)

She’s a decent mare and two of the three bumper horses that we ran here yesterday, were placed, so that was encouraging. The ground will be fine for her and she comes into the race in super form. This looks a very good bumper and a few of these, wouldn’t look out of place in the Champion Bumper earlier in the card. Our mare is in good form and it would be great if she could nick a bit of black type.
