Sevastova defending champion and favourite
Anastasija Sevastova won the Bucharest Open last year and returns to Romania seeking her first title since that triumph 12 months ago. Sevastova is a strong clay court player, having won the Portugal Open way back in 2010 and being a finalist in the 2016 Bucharest Open.

The 29-year-old has plenty of prestige in this tournament and has a relatively easy route to the semi-finals here. Sevastova is not set to meet a seeded player until Kristyna Pliskova in the quarters. She should be reaching the final of this tournament and is 5.00 to win the title again.
However, Sevastova’s main rivals for the title come in the latter half of the draw. Second seed Viktoria Kuzmova is yet to reach a WTA final but the 21-year-old made it to the third round of the French Open and is well suited to clay. She is 10.00 to win the title here, while third-seed Veronika Kudermetova is 12.00.
Yet the hidden talent in the Bucharest Open draw could well be third-favourite Laura Siegemund. The German is seeded sixth for this tournament and battled through her opening round against Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina in three sets. All three of Siegemund’s previous WTA finals have been on clay, where she won two of them. The 31-year-old is 10.00 to claim the title here.
Ladies Open Lausanne — July 15-21
Defending champion Alize Cornet returns to Lausanne for the WTA Swiss Open. And the Frenchwoman is certainly one to watch and bet on here. Cornet flopped in her two Grand Slam singles outings this summer but impressed at he Eastbourne International to reach to quarter-finals.
The 29-year-old has proven to be reasonably competent to clay this season and has not won a title since landing the Swiss Open in Gstaad last year. Yet Cornet is 10.00 to win the title again this year and there are better options available if you’re looking to make a strong tennis bet.

Indeed, Caroline Garcia is the 5.50 favourite and eased past her first-round opponent Antonia Lottner 6-2 6-3 on the first day of the tournament. Garcia exited the first round of Wimbledon this year and so is fresh for this tournament. Her Grand Slam results have been dreadful in 2019 but Garcia has reached one clay final already this season — the Internationaux de Strasbourg in May.
Elsewhere, top seed Julia Gorges is also 5.50 to win the title and her path was made easier by Eugenie Bouchard’s first-round exit. Gorges is now not projected to meet a seeded player until Cornet in the semi-finals.
Yet the German may not even get that far. A flurry of activity on unseeded Swiss star Timea Bacsinszky has seen the 30-year-old move to 10.00 to win the tournament. Bacsinszky is projected to face Gorges in the second round if she can get past 21-year-old Jil Teichmann. Bacsinszky last reached a WTA final in 2016 but has two clay finals to her name (winning one) and is a good outside bet here.
