Tsitsipas v Monfils – Friday, March 1 at 13:00 GMT

The first semi-final on Friday sees Tsitsipas take on veteran Monfils, who has enjoyed a stellar start to 2019. Monfils won the Rotterdam Open in mid-February, adding to his semi-final appearance at the Sofia Open.

Tsitsipas is going strong on what could be a breakthrough year for the Greek. He beat Federer at he Australian Open and made it to the semi-finals in Melbourne before losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

Monfils is the early favourite at 1.78 to win on Friday. The Frenchman beat Tsitsipas 6-3 7-6 in Sofia this February and that has punters flocking to back him. It was Tsitsipas’ disastrous return game (17% of return points won) that cost the Greek that day.

Yet Tsitsipas is still on form and will look to address his return woes on Friday. The 20-year-old has sauntered through the rounds in Dubai and breezed past Egor Gerasimov 6-3 6-1 on Wednesday. He is 2.05 to win what should be a thrilling match.

Federer v Coric

Federer can almost taste that iconic 100th ATP Tour title but the Swiss maestro must earn it here in Dubai. Federer has twice been taken to three sets already this week and has come through some testing matches.

He beat Marton Fucsovics 7-6 6-4 on Thursday to soothe tensions after two difficult matches. But Federer is by no means the clear-cut favourite to win this clash.

Borna Coric has endured an energy-sapping tournament so far but is serving well and has beaten Federer in each of their last two meetings. That includes a hard-court victory at the Shanghai Masters last year, where the Croat secured a memorable 6-4 6-4 triumph.

Coric will face Federer after grinding out a 4-6 6-2 7-6 win over Nikoloz Basilashvili late on Thursday night. That match went on longer than either player expected — and that will play into Federer’s hands.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion should be fresher than Coric for their semi-final encounter. He is worth backing to win in two sets.
