Cincinnati Masters — 12-19 August
Djokovic heavy favourite
Few players in the past decade have dominated a season quite like Novak Djokovic in 2019. The Serb has already won two Grand Slams this year and claimed the Madrid title back in May. Djokovic’s tour in centred around these big tournaments and he is primed to excel in New York later this autumn.

Djokovic would love a pre-Grand Slam title in Cincinnati to boost his credentials further by the time he heads to Flushing Meadows. But he faces a tricky few days in Cincinnati. Up first for the Serb is the wildcard Sam Querrey, who can threaten anyone on his day. Djokovic could also face the big-serving John Isner and the talented but temperamental Nick Kyrgios before the semi-finals.
Roger Federer is also in Djokovic’s half of the draw, so a Federer v Djokovic semi-final is certainly on the cards. Djokovic is 2.05 to win the Cincinnati Masters, with Federer second favourite at 3.80. And remember, you can live stream tennis and bet In Play on all Federer and Djokovic matches this week!
Nishikori looks good for semi-final spot
Over in the bottom half of the draw, Kei Nishikori has benefitted from Rafael Nadal’s late withdrawal. It means the Japanese star does not have a higher seed in his quarter, with Borna Coric arguably his toughest prospective opponent.

Expect Nishikori, therefore, to reach the semi-finals here. He would then likely come up against either Alexander Zverev or Dominic Thiem, based on seed. But Thiem is not a seasoned hard-court player and Main Cilic is also in this third quarter of the draw. Punters may expect Cilic to meet Zverev in the quarters, with a semi-final opponent on Nishikori the prize.
Nishikori is a strong price at 26.00 to win the Cincinnati Masters, while Zverev is 17.00 and Thiem 21.00.
Halep leads Williams and Osaka in WTA betting
Over on the women’s singles tour, fourth seed Simona Halep is the 5.00 favourite to win the Cincinnati Masters title. Halep has played just one tournament since winning Wimbledon earlier this summer — she crashed out in the Canadian Open quarters. But the 27-year-old looks primed to impress here and has the benefit of a routine draw for the first couple of matches.

Halep could become unstuck if she meets 2018 Cincinnati Masters champion Kiki Bertens in the quarter-finals. Bertens has had a tough time of it since Wimbledon and must get past Venus Williams in her opening match.
Elsewhere, top seed Ashleigh Barty faces Maria Sharapova in a crunch second-round tie. Petra Kvitova is also in the top quarter of the draw and could meet one of those two players in the last-eight.
And Serena Williams will be hoping to pick up some much-needed form ahead of the US Open. She is in Naomi Osaka’s quarter of the draw and the pair could well meet. Williams may also have to bypass Elina Svitolina on her path to the semi-finals, with the Ukrainian desperate to impress after a disappointing Canadian Open showing.
Williams is 8.00 to win the Cincinnati Masters, with Barty the 6.00 second favourite. Osaka is out at 9.00, with Kvitova at 14.00.
