World Snooker Championship quarter-finals — April 30 to May 1

David Gilbert vs Kyren Wilson

Wilson came through a stunning 13-11 second round match with Barry Hawkins to make the quarter-finals and is many people’s tip to win the whole thing. The 27-year-old boasts three rankings titles in his career and won the German Masters earlier in 2019.

Wilson boasts a W3 L0 record over Gilbert, which is why he is the favourite to progress to the semi-finals. He is certainly the man to keep an eye on during these quarters.

Ali Carter vs Gary Wilson

Another Wilson here, Gary was unseeded for this tournament and performed magnificently to knock out Mark Selby in the second round. But this is likely the furthest he will reach at the World Snooker Championship, with Carter on fire right now.

Carter has already sauntered past two Chinese opponents in Sheffield and is projected to meet Judd Trump in the semi-finals later this week. That would be a royal rumble for sure — and Carter is well placed to beat Wilson with ease on Tuesday and Wednesday.

John Higgins vs Neil Robertson

These two giants of world snooker face off on Tuesday, April 30 at 14:30 BST. And Higgins is the 2.70 underdog to win. That’s in part because Robertson is on excellent form right now. The fourth seed on the China Open earlier this month and reached the finals of both the Players Championship and Tour Championship in the spring.

Higgins himself is enjoying a career revival over the past 18 months and should by no means be discounted here. He hasn’t won a title in 2019, however, and exited in the first round of the China Open in his last ranking tournament.

The heart is backing Higgins to claim a fifth world title and get over the line after losing in the last two finals. But the head says Robertson should win this and he starts out as the 1.44 favourite.

This should be a cracker and you can live stream snooker and bet in-play on all the action from your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Judd Trump vs Stephen Maguire

Possibly the most weighted quarter-final in terms of odds, Trump is 1.22 to win this one. It is indicative of his excellent form of late. But those odds show just how little confidence snooker betting fans have in Maguire to come up with a win.

Yes, Maguire’s career has taken a downturn from the heady heights of a decade ago when he was challenging for the World Number One spot. But the Scot is still dangerous on his day and beat James Cahill — Ronnie O’Sullivan’s usurper — 13-12 to reach this stage.

Maguire also has a W14 L12 record over Trump. And that includes victory in their last match — a 5-2 result in the German Masters.

Maguire is a great price at 4.50 to edge into the semi-finals.
