Madrid v Valladolid – Saturday, August 24 at 18:00 BST

Madrid laboured to a 3-1 win at Celta last weekend as the new season got off to a routine start. There was no Eden Hazard in the lineup, with Karim Benzema leading the line and Gareth Bale playing to the right of the main striker. Bale’s inclusion surprised some after his transfer debacle during the summer. But Madrid went out and grasped the game against a Celta side who were hoping to pinch a draw.

Saturday sees Madrid host Valladolid, who beat Betis 2-1 away from home last weekend. Valladolid avoided relegation last season and actually finished the campaign very strongly. They will be hoping to scare Madrid here but at 6.75 the odds on a draw are long indeed.

Madrid should win this game with ease. It’s early in the season and Europe is not yet a distraction. At 1.61 they are a good price to win both halves.

Celta v Valencia – Saturday, August 24 at 20:00 BST

A mouthwatering encounter on Saturday night comes from Vigo, where Celta will be hoping to quickly bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Madrid. And they could well get their wish against a Valencia side that ground out a home draw against Sociedad to kick off the new season.

Valencia manager Marcelino has been hard at work over the summer, landing a new goalkeeper and spending £13m on forward Maxi Gomez. It is hoped winger Manu Vallejo – a £5m acquisition from Cadiz – will boost their attacking unit.

Valencia are by no means on course for a win here and Celta are 3.40 to get the draw.

Barca v Betis – Sunday, August 25 at 21:00 BST

It’s a late kick off on Sunday nigh in Spain, where Barca will hope to override their disastrous start to the new campaign with a win against Betis. Barca were stunned 1-0 at Bilbao last week and managed just two shots on target, despite having Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele in the starting lineup.

Barca host a Betis side that lost 2-1 to Valladolid last weekend and who looked off the pace. They will be without goalkeeper Joel Robles, who is suspended following his red card in the opening-day defeat.

It’s hard to see how Betis can really threaten Barca here, other than the fact midfielder Frenkie De Jong is still settling in at the Nou Camp. Bilbao exploited a largely second-rate Barca midfield last weekend and Betis may be able to offer stern resistance if they win the midfield superiority.

Still, Barca are a sensible bet to win 2-0 at 7.50. And remember, you can watch football online and bet In Play during the match with Unibet!
