But after a strong winter and draft, plus an expected slump from Boston this season, it appears as though the Yankees will have no problem winning the AL East. And that means they should get a favourable route through the playoffs come the autumn.
Yes, it’s a long way away but the Yankees do look good. They beat Detroit 3-1 on Monday night to recover from a 2-1 opening series loss to the Orioles. That was a shock to the system but punters are expected to stick with New York through these early spring games.

The Houston Astros are the current big bet out west to win the World Series. The Astros are 7.00 to claim the title, having reached the Championship Series last year. Head coach A. J. Hinch has developed his team further this year and the Astros are tipped to impress as the summer stretches out.

Now, Houston did lose their opening series 3-1 at Tampa Bay. But the Rays themselves could well do something this year — and an away series to open the season rarely leads to victory. We will truly get to know the Astros mettle later this month when they face the Yankees and Rangers.
Big odds in the National League

The smart money may well be on the Cardinals here, at 8.50. The NL Central is expected to be very competitive this season but the Cards could well pinch it, especially with slugger Paul Goldschmidt now in the roster.
