DAY three of the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival sees Stradivarius, Trueshan and Spanish Mission clash in the Lonsdale Stakes. Stradivarius is going for his fourth success in the Lonsdale Cup and the appreciative and knowledgeable crowd at York will give him and Frankie Dettori a great reception if he achieves this at the Knavesmire. This would be a great result; however Spanish Mission looks to have everything in his favour and Trueshan will probably find the ground too quick.
The Nunthorpe Stakes looks a thriller with Golden Pal trained by Wesley Ward really adding some spice to this renewal, with my selection the French raider Suesa, who I think is some talented filly. More locally, Winter Power for Tim Easterby, will have plenty of supporters, as the trainer has no made secret of how highly he regards his charge.
Enjoy at York or watching #athome
Cheers

1.50 York – Handicap (1m4f)
Wink Of The Eye is going for a five timer and this three-year-old can strike again for the inform William Haggas team. Wink Of The Eye doesn’t win by wide margins, as he showed last time out when just doing enough to beat State of Bliss at Goodwood, who reopposes today. The step up in trip will suit, he is tactically versatile and Wink Of The Eye has won on quick ground.

HMS President ran really well to finish second to Graphite (my selection) in the Shergar Cup on his most recent start when making a strong challenge late on over today’s trip. He had raced only a couple of days before to finish runner-up at Doncaster over two furlongs shorter. Cheekpieces are worn for the third race in succession and these are making him look a much more straightforward ride. This four-year-old has strong each way claims over what looks his best trip.

2.25 York – Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup Stakes Group 2 (2m½f)
Spanish Mission has a great opportunity here, having been a non-runner in the Goodwood Cup because of testing ground. He was an easy winner of the Yorkshire Cup here two starts ago over one mile six furlongs on good going beating Santiago and Sir Ron Priestley. At the Ascot Gold Cup on his last start on good to firm this five-year-old like Stradivarius had to wait to make a challenge at Ascot and whilst he would not have caught the winner Subjectivist, he nearly caught the second Princess Zoe. That was a visually impressive performance and he will win today.

3.35 York – Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes Group 1 (5f)
Suesa (nap) was so impressive when winning the King George Stakes at Goodwood by three lengths on her first start over five furlongs, with Dragon Symbol (reopposes today) in second place. She thrived over the minimum trip after finding six furlongs and testing conditions at Royal Ascot not to her liking, resulting in her only career defeat to date.Although all of Suesa’s races have been with some juice in the ground, quicker conditions should not hinder here as her sire Night Of Thunder won on good and good to firm. Drawn in stall 14, Suesa can come with a late challenge and this super, classy filly can take the Nunthorpe.
Unibet 5/2 win
Arecibo has had a fantastic season with his second in the King Stand Stakes a real highlight.
He is still in really good form and stall 15 means he can be delivered with his customary late challenge by Unibet Ambassador Jamie Spencer.

Devilwala very interestingly has his first start for David Loughnane and cannot be overlooked. He has been very highly tried with a fourth in the Dewhurst last year to St. Mark’s Basilica and finished in the same position in the Craven behind Master Of The Seas. Admittedly on his last start he finished unplaced in a Listed contest and is now on a good mark back in a handicap and his new yard take the blinkers off. If this is effective, they have a very well handicapped horse on their hands.
