DAY 2 of Royal Ascot 2023 features the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes Group 1 with the principals very closely matched and Adayar Unibet 5/2 looks the one to come out on top here.
There are some each way opportunities here with a typically open Royal Hunt Cup and my nap St Vincents Garden in the Queen’s Vase has lots of potential.
Enjoy whether at Royal Ascot or watching #athome on ITV Racing.
Cheers!

2.30 Ascot – Queen Mary Stakes Group 2 (5f)
Beautiful Diamond looked the part at Nottingham, as she is a well-built, behaved impeccably in the paddock and went to post very well, floating over the ground. Beautiful Diamond recorded a very good speed figure there, and once asked for her effort quickened up nicely at the furlong pole to win easily by 3½l from the smart runner-up Rainynightingeorgia. This form ought to work out well and Kevin Ryan won this with Dramatized last year and Beautiful Diamond looks a similarly smart prospect at this stage.

3.05 Ascot – Kensington Palace Stakes Handicap (1m)
Zenga is having her first start of 2023 and first appearance since a wind operation. It is best to ignore her last run at Newmarket, when the race tactics didn’t work for her and instead focus on her second to Postmark at Lingfield in August on the all-weather when still looking a little green. Zenga will like the quick going and she can run a big race in an open looking Kensington Palace.

3.40 Ascot – Duke Of Cambridge Stakes Group 2 (1m)
Prosperous Voyage can dominate a Duke Of Cambridge that has no definite front-runner in the field and with that Frankie Dettori can keep this simple and go straight to the front and set sensible fractions to get this thoroughly genuine filly home. She made all at a steady pace when beating Inspiral in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket last year and had clearly come on plenty when landing the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom, a run that can be marked up given the slow fractions and she had to come from off the back to score on favourable quick ground.

5.00 Ascot – Royal Hunt Handicap (1m)
Dunum has form figures in competitive handicaps of 1111212 for trainer Natalia Lupini and this five-year-old has to be in the mix. He ran right up to his best when second to Rahmi at the Curragh last month when beaten a short head on good ground. Dunum has won over nine furlongs, which is always an advantage when tackling the Royal Hunt Cup and is overlooked here with regular pilot Wayne Lordan taking the ride.

Ghaly is having his first start since winning at Newmarket last October in good style when beating King Of Conquest, which is strong form. On his penultimate start back in July he had beaten Blue For You at York on good to firm so quick ground really suits him. Ghaly is a seven-year-old having only his eleventh career start and is returning after a 235-day absence, which his trainer Saeed bin Suroor has shown previously that he is very adept at striking in big races with runners coming back from a break.
Unibet 10/1
Intellogent from stall 31 will be racing on the near side, which won’t be a disadvantage and last year’s second makes plenty of appeal. This season has looked very much like two prep runs to get him fit for this as he wasn’t given a hard race at Newbury last time when never really making a challenge from off the pace. He’s also a pound lower than last year, which can only be a good thing, whilst off the back of his Royal Hunt Cup second he ran well in a huge field at York to finish third to the smart Anmaat so clearly big handicaps bring out the best in him.

5.35 Ascot – Queen’s Vase (1m 6f)
St Vincents Garden (nap) is bred to stay every yard of this and more, being a half-brother to useful handicapper Monas Melody, who won over 2m1f on the Flat and was a proper stayer; with that, the drop back to 1m4f at Fairyhouse last time was never going to be in his favour but he still won, rallying gamely in a slowly-run run race to get up on the line, which was testament to his gameness. This step back up to this trip looks guaranteed to suit and he has the best of the draw in stall 1 to work from. There is lots to like about St Vincents Garden’s chance and more improvement looks on the cards.
