THE Qipco 1,000 Guineas has been dominated by Aidan O’Brien in the last ten years, with six wins in that time. There has only been one favourite with Minding, whilst the last two winners Mother Earth and Love were both marked up in my Unibet blog.

It is true to say that Tenebrism wouldn’t have been favourite for the Aidan O’Brien team if Inspiral, the long-term ante-post favourite hadn’t withdrawn. Interestingly Prosperous Voyage, who was second to Inspiral in the Fillies’ Mile must be noted here, as of course should Discoveries for Jessica Harrington, Tuesday also trained by Aidan O’Brien and the French challenges Malavath and Zellie, who are right in the mix.

Tenebrism is my winning selection, with Malavath the strongest challenger, whilst in an open renewal then Ameynah makes most appeal for those looking for a double figure priced selection.

Ameynah is having only her third career start for the Roger Varian team and she really impressed when winning an eight-runner maiden at the Newmarket Craven meeting in mid-April on good going. There was plenty to like about the way she drew clear to beat Enshrine by nearly four lengths, quickening in really good style. Ameynah will definitely stay a mile and while she lacks the experience, she looks the most exciting bigger priced each way player. Unibet 18/1 each way

Enjoy the Qipco 1,000 Guineas whether at Newmarket or #athome watching on ITV Racing or Racing TV.

1.50 Newmarket Heritage Handicap (1m 6f)

Cemhaan comfortably won on good to firm at Salisbury last month by nearly four lengths after struggling to get a clear run. That performance was a career best and even with a penalty this five-year-old will step up on that success on his first start at Newmarket with quick conditions to suit.

2.25 Newmarket – Pretty Polly Stakes Listed Race (1m 2f)

Peripatetic for inform Roger Varian looks to have the most scope to improve in this field.

On debut here on the Rowley Mile last season she finished second, when looking very green after a slow start and was marked up at the time. This season her Newcastle maiden win has worked out well, with the third scoring by four lengths at Newbury on her next start and runner-up Fonteyn running Crenelle (who is also in the field) to a neck here on reappearance. Peripatetic will improve plenty for a step up in trip.

3.00 Newmarket – Dahlia Stakes Group 2 (1m 1f)

Ebaiyra for trainer Francis-Henri Graffard was a good third on quick ground in Riyadh in Japan this winter in a Group 3 behind Authority, which brings strong form here.

She was a little disappointing last time out at Longchamp when third, however the ground was very soft, and conditions here look sure to suit on her first start at Newmarket. Last season Ebaiyra won two group races and was second in a Group 1 to Broome.

3.40 Newmarket – Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes Group 1 (1m 1f)

Tenebrism (nap) has that important Newmarket market form, with her convincing Cheveley Park success, when showing a tremendous turn of foot after coming back from a setback. Some have questioned whether Tenebrism, this daughter of Caravaggio will stay, though she has plenty of stamina from her dam Immortal Verse, who raced over a mile and Tenebrism will get the trip. Tenebrism has enjoyed a trouble-free preparation and can follow up her Cheveley Park victory with the Aidan O’Brien team in top form.

Unibet 11/4

Malavath looks the biggest danger to Tenebrism, having shown on seasonal debut that she is progressing well for Francis-Henri Graffard, beating Zellie (reopposes today) in the Prix Imprudence at Deauville a fortnight ago, when quickening up nicely to win over seven furlongs. We know that Malavath stays a mile after her second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar on firm going behind Pizza Bianca on her last start of 2021. This is Malavath’s first Rowley Mile appearance, and this French challenger has all the credentials to run a big race.
