Royal Ascot 2024 day four features the Commonwealth Cup Group 1 which looks a tricky one to call between Elite Status, Inisherin and Jasour.
The Coronation Stakes Group 1 is a cracker and whilst Elmalka and Porta Fortuna are closely matched from the 1000 Guineas I expect the exciting Elmalka to follow up her Newmarket success.
I’m looking forward to being back at Royal Ascot 2024.
Enjoy whether at Royal Ascot or watching #athome on ITV Racing.
Cheers!

3:45 Ascot – Coronation Stakes Group 1 (1m Rnd)
Elmalka (nap) and Porta Fortuna on their 1000 Guineas running have little between them but the winner is open to more improvement after just the three starts, and the way she was strong at the finish there suggests this even stiffer test should suit her well. She can beat Opera Singer, who looked in need of the run when third to Fallen Angel in the Irish equivalent.
Elmalka is the one that is open to the most improvement in the field and will come out on top here.

4.25 Ascot – Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes Handicap (1m 4f)
Deakin won his last two starts last season including a win over this trip. He made his seasonal debut at the Curragh last month over 1m 2f when looking like the winner after making a move at the final furlong until Crystal Black collared him close home. They reoppose here and with Deakin returning to 1m 4f he will beat his rival and this nice type will run a big race.

Shadow Dance is having his first start of 2024 having won on his penultimate appearance at Haydock ahead of delivering a career best performance at Newmarket over this trip. It is worth rewatching his Newmarket run when he was a half length second to Alsakib when these two were clear of the rest.
Shadow Dance will only improve as a four-year-old, likes the quick ground and has a favourable draw in stall 19.

5.05 Ascot – Sandringham Stakes Fillies’ Handicap (1m)
Nocturnal looks like she has been laid out for the Sandringham on her fourth career start having not run since comfortably winning on the all-weather at Wolverhampton at the end of March. Last season she won on the turf at Lingfield so has that race experience and she will build considerably on her seasonal debut

5:40 Ascot – King Edward VII Stakes Group 2 (1m 4f)
War Rooms looks a big price based on his third to Economics in the Dante, a vast improvement on anything he’d achieved before, and he started to look like he was going the right way. He looked a strong stayer at the trip, doing lots of good late work, and the form of that race should work out well as the season progresses. He can arguably be rated higher than 104 on the run too, and he looks good each-way value with plenty of progression to come.

6:15 Ascot – Palace of Holyrood House Stakes Handicap (5f)
Shagraan has improved enormously this year, finishing second to Equity Law at Sandown on reapperance and then an excellent third to James’s Delight at Newmarket, form that looks all the better after the winner was successful again off a mark of 102 at York last weekend. He’s got a good draw up the middle to track the likely pace angles to his left, and Mick Appleby has gone close in this with Fantasy Master in the past.

Sommelier showed a good attitude on debut as a juvenile when fourth and he then went on to win at Chelmsford and Kempton.
This season apart from a blurp on his penultimate appearance he has continued to move forwards as he showed when second (Dark Vintage in third, reopposes) to Big Evs in a Listed race at York when beaten 1 and a half lengths over this trip.
He is a strong traveller, has a favourable draw in stall 27 and Ryan Moore takes the ride.
