Vintage Fizz

The Unibet Summer Plate Ladies Day at Market Rasen, features a seven-race card sponsored by Unibet, which has good sized fields and is certainly going to be very competitive.

Francky Du Berlais the winner of the feature race, the Unibet Summer Plate Handicap Chase  in 2021 and 2022, then struggled in the soft going in last year’s renewal and he is back for his fourth consecutive appearance with a maximum of field of 16.

There are numerous runners here coming to the race in excellent form and the veteran Francky Du Berlais, whilst targeted at this race as usual, looks like he may struggle to hold off the younger generation including Boombawn, Soul Icon, Mole Court and Vintage Fizz, though Francky Du Berlais’ stablemate, the nine-year-old Statuario, has a strong chance on a career high mark.

At Newbury, the Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes, sees Vingegaard my selection near the top of the market, however Miss Collada Unibet 12/1 for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon certainly has each way claims.

Enjoy whether at a racecourse or watching #athome on ITV Racing.

I’m looking forward to heading to Market Rasen. See you there!

Cheers

2.05 Market Rasen – Unibet Moneyback As Cash Races Handicap Hurdle (2m 4½f)

Flying Fortune (nap) looked in strong form when second to Gale Mahler (runs in the first race on the card) at Uttoxeter on good ground when beaten 2½ lengths, with the third 9l back. The mare travelled well into the race and would have been closer if she had jumped the last smoothly behind Gale Mahler, who was making it four on the bounce. Flying Fortune has the opportunity to secure her first success over hurdles on ground that will suit after twice winning in bumpers.

Unibet are paying MONEY BACK AS CASH if 2nd or 3rd in this race!

2:40 Market Rasen – Unibet Daily Industry Best Prices Summer Handicap Hurdle (2m½f)

Kihavah is a familiar dual-purpose performer, who has been in good form on the flat and is making his first hurdles appearance since winning here in June 2023 when beating Shallow River on good ground. Kihavah will have conditions very much in his favour and this looks an excellent opportunity for this seven-year-old to score his fourth win over hurdles with Black Poppy the main danger.

3:00 Newbury – Fidelity Energy Hackwood Stakes Group 3 (6f)

Lake Forest is an improving sprinter who can take the Hackwood Stakes on the way to something even better later in the season. Useful at two, he showed he’d trained on in good fashion when second to Inisherrin in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. This was his first start of this season, and the run looks even better when you look at the tangle he was in coming out of the stalls, costing him both ground and momentum. Lake Forest looks to have plenty in his favour here and there is lots to like about his attitude.

3:15 Market Rasen – Unibet Summer Plate Handicap Chase 2m 5½f

Statuario has plenty going for him here. Third to stablemate Francky Du Berlais in this last year, he’s higher in the weights this time around but that’s fully deserved, with his latest win over Hang In There, who franked the form when the runner-up took the valuable Summer Cup at Uttoxeter next time out.

This nine-year-old is at his highest career rating of 135, and the way he wanted to win at Perth was also a good pointer to his attitude, so he’s taken to reverse the form with his stablemate this time around.

Vintage Fizz really caught the eye when second beaten a neck by Yccs Portocervo, who reopposes here, in the Summer Plate Trial’ last month on good ground. Vintage Fizz likes to be held up and made steady progress that day ahead of staying on really well. There will be a strong gallop and Vintage Fizz can do ever better running a big race.

3:35 Newbury – Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (5f)

Vingegaard looks to be on a nice weight for the Super Sprint this year and can take another step forward today.

A ready winner on his Chepstow debut (form looks solid) he improved on that to finish fifth to Ain’t Nobody in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. He showed bright speed that day and led his group 2f out but was in the wrong part of the track and had to settle for fifth in the end. Nevertheless, that’s a very good effort given he was just second in his group and this speed-favouring track should play more to his strengths.
