THE second day of the Cambridgeshire meeting at the home of flat racing features three Group races and two Listed contests in a seven-race card.

The Group 2 Rockfel Stakes for fillies has the biggest field since 2008, with 14 runners declared and it is a cracking renewal. It certainly promises to be informative with Olivia Maralda, runner-up to Meditate in the Debutante Stakes, and Commissioning, who impressed on her debut on the July course, in the field. There are several others in the line-up like Rage Of Bamby, Rich and Eximious who are open to lots of improvement, whilst Dance In The Grass could easily bounce back following her very disappointing performance in the May Hill at Doncaster when seventh to the very exciting Polly Pott. A fascinating race.

The other Group races and the two Listed contests are very intriguing too with six-year-old Tempus going for his fourth success on the bounce in the Joel Stakes Group 2 and Royal Scandal looking like a very exciting filly in the Group 3 Dubai Stakes, who I’m really looking forward to watching.

Enjoy whether watching at Newmarket or #athome on ITV Racing or Racing TV.

Whitebeam scored cosily on handicap debut at Haydock in August to make it three in a row under a confident ride, having previous won at Newbury over seven furlongs and a mile. Whitebeam was raised to a mark of 97 from 91 after her Haydock success and can go further forwards here in Listed company.

Mystic Wells won a handicap at Brighton ahead of setting the pace in the Oaks Trial at Lingfield when only just losing out near the line to the very late challenge of Rogue Millennium.
On her last start in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot she was asked to set too quick a pace and never had any chance of sustaining that gallop. Mystic Wells is dropping back to this trip for the first time in 2022, has a bit to find on the ratings, yet she has the ability to reward each way players here.

Royal Scandal was unraced as a two-year-old and is having her fourth career start in her first Group race. She looked smart when winning on debut at Newcastle and then on turf at Doncaster there was no pace on in a three-runner race, with a line best drawn through that performance. Next time out at Kempton over this distance she was always travelling well and moved through to take the lead two furlongs out to win as she liked by four lengths. Royal Scandal is an intriguing runner here with her Group 1 entry for Champions Day and can come from off the pace to be placed at minimum as she will go on improving.

Commissioning was mighty impressive on career debut on the July course over this trip for the John and Thady Gosden team and looks more than capable of making the step up to Group 2 company from a Class 4 maiden. This daughter of Kingman is bound to come on plenty for that first run and can hold off much more experienced rivals like Olivia Maralda.

Rage Of Bamby won on debut at Newbury beating the more experienced Dandy Alys, who has since finished second in the Sweet Solera Group 3 on the July course. Rage Of Bamby then followed up impressively at Leicester under a penalty when she trounced 11 rivals in a good time after easily quickening clear. Her front running style could serve her very well on the Rowley Mile and she can run a big race here.

Tempus (nap) is in the form of his career having started 2022 on a mark of 97 and now this six-year-old is on 117. Age is no prohibitive to winning this race as Benbatl was seven when successful in 2021 and six of the last ten winners have been five or older.
Tempus is poised to make it a four timer after winning a Handicap in July at Ascot, then beating Modern News in a Group 3 Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury by three quarters of a length and with something in hand on that occasion. Last time out he ran well in the Group 3 Prix Quincey at Deauville to beat International Angel, showing plenty of enthusiasm and looking like another step up in performance will come so he can take this Group 2.
