THE 2024 St Leger may see the first success by a filly since Simple Verse in 2015 with the supplemented You Got To Me having strong claims stepping up in trip.
The Adian O’ Brien team have three runners in the field with the favourite lllinois, the exciting and less experienced Jan Brueghel, whilst Grosvenor Square has shown he is very suited by this trip.
The rest of the home challenge is made up of Derby fourth Deira Mile, Sunway and Wild Waves.
An intriguing renewal of the final three-year-old classic of 2024.

1:50 Doncaster – Champagne Stakes (7f)
Wolf of Badenoch was a course and distance winner on debut so he has that going for him, and he improved a fair chunk when second to Aomori City in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, form that’s already received a boost with third home Cool Hoof Luke winning the Gimcrack on his next start. That run was impressive on its own, but he still looked far from the finished article, so there should be a lot more left in the locker. A lot to like about his chances.

2:25 Doncaster – Portland Handicap (5½f)
Vintage Clarets tends to show his form at this time of year and he looked like he was on the way back when finishing midfield at York last time, doing best of those that were drawn in double figures, which (apart from last Sunday, when the ground turned soft) has been a massive disadvantage all year on the straight course at York. He’s slipped below his last winning mark now and as long as his high draw isn’t a huge disadvantage, he can go close here.
Apollo One never had a chance at York at the Ebor Festival having to do all his own work from stall 10 on the unfavoured part of course and finished eighth (first in the high numbers) with the low numbers clearly favoured on this occasion. We know he has a great placed record in big field six-furlong handicaps and hasn’t been so effective over the minimum trip so this distance could work in his favour. Apollo One is drawn in stall 9, which gives him options and if he can get some cover racing prominently early on, he can then challenge from just off the pace to reward each way players.
3:00 Doncaster – Park Stakes (7f)
Lead Artist (nap) is the top rated three-year-old in the field and with the dry forecast that will only work in his favour. He delivered his career best performance at Goodwood in the Thoroughbred Stakes Group 3 last time out when beating King’s Gamble by ¾ of a length after taking up the lead after a furlong. Lead Artist certainly did well under the circumstances from stall 1 after a slow start and with the pace bias against him. This unraced two-year-old has raced solely over a mile on his four starts and rewatching his Goodwood performance the drop back to seven furlongs is not a hindrance to success here.

3:40 Doncaster – St Leger Stakes Group 1 (1m 6½f)
You Got To Me with her 3lb allowance here just get the vote in a tightly matched St Leger and the team can be rewarded for supplementing her.
From her win in the Lingfield Oaks Fillies Trial at the beginning of the season, she’s done nothing but improve on each start, culminating in a win in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh in July, and lost nothing in defeat in the Yorkshire version last time, staying on well all the way to the line and, not for the first time, looking ready for this step up in trip. You Got To Me is the one to beat.
