THE feature on day two of the Moët & Chandon July Festival is the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes Group 1 and it is the first time that we will really see the three-year-old fillies take on their elders. This year we have a bigger field than usual with thirteen runners, having been accustomed to fields half of that size.  Royal Ascot plays an important part in the analysis, with the first five in the Duke Of Cambridge renewing rivalry here. The winner Indie Angel is looking to follow up, whilst many like the fourth Champers Elysees, who is racing off level weights, after having a five-pound penalty in June. The super talented Alcohol Free won the Coronation Stakes chased home by Snow Lantern for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon, who was importantly denied a clear run to challenge late on, whilst 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth was back in third. Primo Bacio’s success at York in May when showing a blistering turn of foot and recording a tremendous speed figure in the last furlong really caught the eye. That day Creative Flair was second and Snow Lantern third, who failed to settle throughout what was initially a slowly run race.

A truly fascinating renewal in which the Coronation Stakes form and Primo Bacio’s facile win at York hold the key.

Enjoy whether at Newmarket or watching #athome on ITV Racing or Racing TV.

Cheers

1.50 Newmarket – Heritage Handicap (1m 2f)

King Of Clubs was second last time out at Sandown on good to firm over a furlong shorter than today and looked to be crying out for a step up in trip. This was an improved run following his previous Nottingham win, which has thrown up four winners from those in behind, and King Of Clubs demolished them, so there is plenty more to come with ground and trip suiting here.

2.25 Newmarket – Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes Group 2 (6f)

Sadmah can cause a surprise here in a race where the principals have to prove they are as effective on good to firm going as testing conditions. This Frankel filly may lack for experience having only had one career start when winning at Haydock on good to firm after running on well late on. There was plenty to like about her attitude and interesting that she is stepped up here.

3.00 Newmarket – Heritage Handicap (1m 6f)

Lostwithiel was second beaten half a length by Global Storm on his penultimate start in May and is 4lb better off, with good claimer Mark Crehan taking three pounds off. Back in April Lostwithiel showed some inexperience when second to Hochfield at Nottingham and last time out he didn’t stay in the Ascot Stakes. He is perfectly at home on quick ground, still has improvement to come and looks good each-way value.

Live Your Dream won easily at Wolverhampton when stepped up in trip to just over two miles from a mile and half last time out. The handicapper raised this four-year-old ten pounds for that success, and he has to be of interest over today’s trip. The quick going will be fine and Live Your Dream on six career starts has never finished out of the first three.

3.35 Newmarket – Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes Group 1 (1m)

Snow Lantern (nap) can strike for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon, who has always held this filly in high regard. This grey daughter of Frankel and Sky Lantern has top class breeding and providing she can settle early on she can take this Group 1 prize. Two starts ago at York she never settled in a steadily run race and one of her main rivals Primo Bacio won with a great turn of foot. In the Coronation Stakes she was still keen early on and then really settled when turning in to the home straight eventually finishing second to Alcohol Free after not getting a clear run when coming to challenge. I really liked her attitude at Royal Ascot, and she will come on tremendously for that performance.

Unibet 9/2 win

4.45 Newmarket – Moët & Chandon Handicap (5f)

Twilight Calls is improving all the time and drops back to five furlongs from six furlongs for the first time on his sixth career start. This three-year-old won at Doncaster on good to firm two starts ago and has been found a good opportunity here by trainer Henry Candy.

Unibet 9/2 win
