A fascinating renewal of the Randox Grand National and I have included my four selections below. With Unibet Racing paying six places in the Randox Grand National though, I have added a fifth selection Kildisart at 40/1 for those looking for a bigger priced each way selection.
Earlier in the afternoon Edwardstone at 4/6 and Flooring Porter at 13/8 are hard to oppose in the Maghull Novices Chase Grade 1 and the Liverpool Hurdle Grade 1 respectively.

1.45 Aintree – EFT Construction Handicap Hurdle (3m½f)
Beauport might be carrying top weight but he looks a proper Graded horse in waiting and this will be the last time we see him in a handicap. Last time out he pulled clear with the unexposed Boothill at Uttoxeter and battled on well looking for all the world like a step back up in trip would suit. Interestingly Beauport was marked up in my Unibet blog when second to Green Book at Sandown over a similar trip to today in February.

2.25 Aintree – Mersey Novices’ Hurdle Grade 1 (2m 4f)
Good Risk At All for the in form Sam Thomas team missed the handicap on Friday to have a crack at this Grade 1, which tells you what his trainer thinks he is capable of.
Good Risk At All won as he liked at Ascot, with 9l to the second Christopher Wood and another 34l to the third Lucky One in what looked a competitive race. There is plenty more improvement to come and he can take this Grade 1.

4.15 Aintree – Handicap Chase (3m 1f)
Sam Brown is classy and ran a stormer when second to Royal Pagaille in the Peter Marsh at Haydock after always being prominent. Ignore his last start in the Grand National Trial when never travelling and he was pulled up. This lightly raced ten-year-old is having only his ninth start over fences and back on form will reward each way players.

5.15 Aintree – Randox Grand National Handicap Chase (4m 2f)
Fiddlerontheroof (nap) for the Colin Tizzard team has finished in the first three in seventeen of his eighteen career starts and this eight year old’s consistency can be rewarded here. This season he has won the Colin Parker at Carlisle, ahead of being beaten a neck by Cloudy Glen in the big Handicap Chase at Newbury when really staying on well from the last. He was then given an 84-day break and appeared at Ascot in testing conditions in February when headed in the final strides by the progressive Fortescue (reopposes) trying to give the winner 17 pounds. Fiddlerontheroof wasn’t given the credit he deserved for that reappearance and he is a very talented performer, a sound jumper, who has the class to have finished second to Monkfish at a Cheltenham Festival.

Any Second Now was marked up in my Unibet blog in 2021, when he finished third, having been badly hampered earlier in the race and would have been second at least with a smoother run. This season Any Second Now has had three runs with his victory over Escaria Ten in the Bobbyjo showing his wellbeing and like last year this has all been about the Grand National.

Escaria Ten has been targeted at the Grand National for a year. His third in the National Hunt Chase last year at the Festival is a very strong piece of form, with Snow Leopardess some 14l away in fourth and they meet again on almost identical terms. He had Bobbyjo in the bag before he got tired very late and got picked off by Any Second Now. That was a career best and he’s going to show he’s a very well handicapped horse here.

Fortescue has sneaked in at bottom weight for Henry Daly, who has always thought of his charge as a Grand National runner. Fortescue beat Fiddlerontheroof (reopposes) at Ascot on his last start, having finished third in the Peter Marsh behind Royal Pagaille at Haydock and just lost out to Five Star Getaway at Kempton.
This eight-year-old has been steadily progressive all season, looks sure to benefit from this marathon trip and will handle ground conditions.

Kildisart remains unexposed at staying trips and for a horse with a touch of class, looks well weighted. The Ben Pauling yard are going very well at present, with most of their horses running to form, and his fourth to Paint The Dream at Newbury, coming back off a fifteen month break should have put him spot on for the Grand National.
