THE 2020 Qatar Goodwood Festival has a star-studded line up across the five days with ‘The Glorious Five’ of Battaash, Stradivarius, Kameko, Siskin and Deirdre headlining a mouth-watering #GloriousAtHome.
In the build-up I have been involved in promoting the Goodwood Hampers, which had to be ordered ahead of the Qatar Goodwood Festival to ensure delivery in good time. Each Goodwood Hamper features lots of delicious award-winning artisan products from around the country and the Goodwood Estate, as well as including a bottle of something special for everyone to choose, with a fabulous choice of either Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label, Mirabeau Provence Rosé or Gusbourne Brut Reserve English Sparkling.
Racing has been doing so well in promoting the #AtHome experience and this is one part of ensuring we get great engagement for #GloriousAtHome
The star of day one is of course Stradivarius and we look forward to this wonderful six-year-old making history in the Goodwood Cup, just as Enable did at Ascot in the King George. It Is great to see these older flat horses remaining in training and drawing so much public appeal.
Cheers,
The Wine Tipster!
1.45 – Goodwood Unibet You’re On Handicap (1m2f)
A super competitive look to the Unibet You’re On Handicap with Tinandali looking a good each way wager. This four-year-old’s form figures for 2020 read 235, yet on both of his last two starts at Epsom and York respectively he has been doing all his best at the finish. I really fancied at him at York in the John Smith’s Cup when he didn’t have a smooth passage, when coming from the back to challenge late and he passed numerous rivals in the last furlong to finish fifth. He is ground versatile too. And with Unibet paying AN EXTRA PLACE on this race, I like the each-way play even more!
Unibet 7/1 each way
You’re Hired for Amanda Perrett has a good record at Goodwood, winning here in 2016 at this meeting as well as finishing second last year.
He cruised up at Newmarket on seasonal debut and then finished fifth to Sky Defender (reopposes today) at Epsom (Tinandali in same race). Conditions are ideal, he is drawn well and it’s the return of the visor that catches the eye (ran really well first time the cheekpieces went on last year).
Look good each way value with Unibet's EXTRA PLACE!
Unibet 28/1 each way
2.15 Goodwood – Vintage Stakes Group 2 (7f)
Favourites have won the previous four renewals of the Vintage Stakes and Battleground can continue the top of the market winning trend. This colt’s dam Found won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Battleground certainly looks a horse for the future, having won the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot in good style.
Devious Company poses the main threat, however the Tom Dascombe yard are not hitting form right now and Gorytus looks booked for a place.
Unibet 5/4 win
2.45 Goodwood – Qatar Lennox Stakes Group 2 (7f)
Sir Dancelot looks over-priced and can take the Lennox Stakes for the third consecutive year in what looks a very open renewal. He can come right back to form from stall 3, having won from stall two and four previously and is ground versatile too. This is most definitely his trip.
Unibet 6/1 each way
3.15 Goodwood – Goodwood Cup Stakes Group 1 (2m)
The remarkable Stradivarius can make history and win his fourth Goodwood Cup.
His won his first Goodwood Cup as a three-year-old and whilst Santiago is the beneficiary of the weight-for-age concession in this year’s renewal, he doesn’t come here with strong enough credentials, after winning what looked a substandard Irish Derby.
Stradivarius has had the perfect build up with a good seasonal debut, when third to Ghaiyyath at Newmarket over an inadequate trip of one mile four furlongs on good to firm, ahead of winning the Ascot Gold Cup for the third time in imperious style in the soft.
Unibet 8/15 win
3.45 Goodwood – Qatar Handicap (5f)
Celsius (nap) can take this for the inform Tom Clover yard, having won at this meeting last year.
This season Celsius won on seasonal debut at Haydock, then had nowhere to go on his following start before coming with his typically late charge to finish second to Han Solo Berger at Newmarket, with the winner running well last weekend.
He looks to have an excellent chance here from a tactical perspective, is ground versatile, has course form and his five victories have all come over this trip.
