THE Qipco 1,000 Guineas has a different market look to the Qipco 2,000 Guineas with a short priced favourite Santa Barbara on the back of a maiden win at the Curragh last September. Trainer Aidan O’ Brien is taking a very different course to last year’s high class winner Love, as Santa Barbara would be the first filly to win the 1,000 Guineas on seasonal debut after a maiden victory at two since Dancing Time in 1941. Santa Barbara is very well bred and with second favourite Pretty Gorgeous announced as a non-runner on Friday morning by Joseph O’ Brien after an unsatisfactory scope Santa Barbara’s price will only shorten.

With a likely odds on favourite and a doubt about the tough, determined Cheveley Park Stakes winner Alcohol Free getting the trip you have to look at some each way selections here.

Enjoy Qipco 1,000 Guineas Day.

Cheers!

1.50 Newmarket – Handicap (1m 4f)

Global Storm for the inform Charlie Appleby yard will be much fitter today that he was back in Meydan in February when finishing seventh over today’s trip and never challenging. Last season he won over one mile two furlongs on the Rowley Mile showing plenty of determination to beat Arthurian Fable and he clearly looked like a step up in distance will benefit him.

Unibet 4/1 win

2.25 Newmarket – Pretty Polly Listed (1m 2f)

A’Sharri looked very inexperienced on her only start when winning a maiden at Newmarket last August very smartly on soft ground. There has been plenty of winning form from this race and the quicker ground looks sure to suit A’Sharri, who has Group 1 entries.

Unibet 15/8 win

3.00 Newmarket – Dahlia Stakes Group 2 (1m 1f)

Norma is worth a small each way wager having her first start for the highly respected Joseph Tuite, with Unibet Ambassador Jamie Spencer in the plate. After being with James Fanshawe she raced well at Listed and Group 1 level for H-F Devin last season. Norma will be suited by the quick conditions and has won over this trip.

Unibet 33/1 each way

3.40 Newmarket – Qipco 1,000 Guineas Group 1 (1m)

Mother Earth (nap each way) has plenty of experience as she is having her ninth career start today on seasonal debut and remember last year’s 1,000 Guineas winner Love was having her eight start.

Like Love, Mother Earth was third in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last October and this looked a strong renewal with Pretty Gorgeous (now a non-runner) and Indigio Girl ahead of her. Mother Earth then headed to Keeneland to ran well behind Aunt Pearl, with Cheveley Park Stakes Miss Amulet in third. Mother Earth has the Newmarket experience and will really benefit from running on quicker ground.

Unibet 8/1 each way

Statement started her career here with a second on the July courses at Newmarket on quick going and then she steadily progressed, winning at Newbury on her third start. She then stepped up on her seasonal reappearance, when an excellent second to Alcohol Free over seven furlongs in the Fred Darling at Newbury. She may well have won that day in another couple of strides and Statement is crying out for a mile. Statement looks progressive and has to be given a good each way shout.
