IF YOU had taken odds on the Investec Derby Day taking place at Epsom a couple of months ago you would have been given a big price for sure so it has been a great team effort all round to have both the classics on the same racecard for the first time in history at Epsom. Racing has been doing so well with TV viewing figures and we have seen a great response to all the watch racing #ATHome campaigns, with Epsom promoting the Great British Garden Party for this Saturday.

The Investec Derby is certainly more open than the Oaks and it seems unclear as who the Aidan O’ Brien team think is their strongest chance, with the betting suggesting Mogul, whilst Vatican City looks the best choice for me. He finished strongly in second behind Siskin in a rough race suggesting he can really step up here. Yet the favourite English King’s presents the strongest case as he ticks the most boxes.

2.25 – Investec Surrey Stakes Listed Race (7f)

Hard to see how Safe Voyage gets beat here and he showed he was as well as ever when second at Haydock last month to Space Blues, beaten a neck. Safe Voyage has genuine Group 1 form to his name, when third at Ascot on Champions Day to King Of Change last year. Whilst every drop of rain that falls is in his favour and he just needs to handle the track to win this.

3.00 Epsom Investec Handicap (1m 2f)

Data Protection likes Epsom with form figures 1312 and whilst he doesn’t race at one mile two furlongs that often, his best effort last year came at the trip at Windsor. He two runs in June should have put him spot on and any of the forecast rain would support his solid each way chance from a decent draw in stall 6.

3.40 Epsom – Investec Oaks Group 1 (1m 4f)

Love (nap) was my Unibet nap for the 1,000 Guineas and she looked the winner from a long way out at Newmarket. Whilst some have questioned the form of the placed horses since Love still remains a very strong selection, having won the Group 1 Moyglare at the Curragh as a juvenile and she finished third in the Fillies’ Mile in October at Newmarket.

Love was going away at the end of the 1,000 Guineas and there is no reason why she won’t get one mile four furlongs (dam responsible for Flattering, placed in Oaks) and she has the best form in the race.

Unibet 6/5 win

Gold Wand for the Roger Varian team really caught the eye when winning comfortably at Newbury last month when pushed out and with three places paid is the each way selection.

4.55 Epsom –  Investec Derby Group 1 (Im 4f)

With English King you can’t underestimate his performance in the Lingfield Derby Trial when looking so visually impressive and his sectional timings are there for all to see.

The draw of stall 1 is always seen as a negative, however with Frankie Dettori in the plate we can be confidant that tactically Frankie will have it all worked out.

Unibet 11/4 win

Mohican Heights was given plenty to do at Royal Ascot when in last off the home turn, looking initially a bit flat-footed. He then stayed on really well to finish third to Pyledriver and he looks the type to really step up at Epsom with no stamina concerns here. Remember Mohican Heights won a nice Listed contest at Salisbury as a two-year-old.
