THE Newbury feature is the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle, which is an ever a strong renewal full of exciting prospects and in a race with some notable recent winners this Grade 1 will match up once again.
I’m looking forward to seeing my nap Hoe Joly Smoke run in the Mandarin.
Enjoy whether at Newbury or Leicester or watching #athome on ITV Racing.
See you at Newbury.
Cheers

2.20 Newbury – Mandarin Handicap Chase (3m 2f)
Hoe Joly Smoke (nap) had his first career success earlier this month at Sandown on only his second chase appearance when always confidently ridden, as he travelled strongly throughout and was always jumping well. He was the eyecatcher from some way out and made his challenge at the last and then moved away smoothly up the hill to win by 4¼ lengths from Passing Well. This was a step up on his promising chasing debut at Uttoxeter when second to Resplendent Grey.
Holy Joe Smoke has the most potential in the field and this exciting prospect can follow up on his Sandown success.
Surrey Quest won the Mandarin last year and had his first start for seven months at Cheltenham’s November meeting. He was way out the back at the top of the hill and barely appeared on camera until after two out when making up ground rapidly to eventually finish second to Abuffalosoldier beaten 2¾ lengths.
He will be much sharper here and has to have strong each way claims.
2.55 Newbury – Challow Novices’ Hurdle Grade 1 (2m 4½f)
Regent’s Stroll won his two bumpers at Ascot and Newbury ahead of making his hurdling debut here back at the Berkshire track. Regent’s Stroll won his maiden by 9½ lengths from Good And Clever, who finished a good third to Potters Corner, beaten 7½ lengths at Aintree on Boxing Day in the Grade 1 Formby Novices’ Hurdle. Apart from the second last Regent’s Stroll jumped well throughout, moving comfortably forward from his mistake and stepping up from that 2m ½f trip up to the Challow distance will be no problem for him. He is some talent and can take a strong renewal of the Challow Hurdle.
3.10 Leicester – Leicestershire Silver Fox Handicap Chase (2m 4f)
Hunter Legend off a handy mark of 111 was twice a winner in the spring and still looked like he had more to offer after his second at Wincanton last time out earlier this month.
He looks the one to beat.
3.35 Newbury – Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (2m 6½f)
Moon D’Orange represents each way value in a race that is more open than the market suggests. He didn’t improve on the figures but ran better than an 18-length fourth at the Cheltenham Christmas meeting might suggest as he had Haiti Couleurs, Transmission and Peaky Boy in front of him. He jumped much better with the cheekpieces refitted and might have just done a bit too much too soon on the front end, fading out of it late. Newbury suits those ridden up with the pace, and he could upset a few better-fancied runners.
