royal ascot saturday tips 3

THE final day of Royal Ascot 2023 looks as enthralling as the previous four days and we can forward to more fantastic headlines.

We will have to wait to see if Hukum runs in the Hardwicke Stakes as trainer Owen Burrows will walk the course, as Hukum won’t run if deemed too quick. Hukum looked really good in the Brigadier Stakes at Sandown and let’s hope he lines up.

Enjoy whether at Royal Ascot or watching #athome on ITV Racing.

Cheers,

The Wine Tipster

3.05 Ascot – Jersey Stakes Group 3 (7f)

Olivia Maralda looked really impressive when winning over this trip on Oaks Day, when drawing clear very smoothly on that occasion on good to firm going. On her previous start she unsurprisingly couldn’t keep company with Mawj and Tahiyra in the 1,000 Guineas on soft ground. This is a good opportunity with the quick conditions looking sure to suit.

Zoology is overlooked here as he beat the favourite Covey at Southwell back in April, and for all that Covey has clearly improved in the meantime, Zoology hasn’t really been given the chance to showcase his talents, as soft ground at Newbury clearly didn’t suit him on his only other start in the Greenham. The more it dries the better his chance and he looked a very good horse when he won on debut at Yarmouth last year. Covey cannot be 2-1 and Zoology 20-1.

3.40 Ascot – Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Group 1 (6f)

Artorius (nap) has always looked the strongest Australian challenger for Royal Ascot 2023, having last year finished third behind Naval Crown when coming from last to be closest to the action at the finish and a similar story played out in the July Cup at Newmarket. Artorius won at Rosehill in March and then finished fourth to Anamoe in a hot Group 1. Artorius stays beyond six furlongs, is really effective on quick going and if ridden closer to the action surely goes close.

5.00 Ascot – Wokingham Stakes Heritage Handicap (6f)

Orazio beat Probe (see below) at Newmarket’s Craven meeting and then this four-year-old looked the real deal when winning over course and distance last month when moving clear smoothly. He will improve and looks the ideal type for this race, with stall 29 advantageous on the evidence of Royal Ascot 2023.

Probe continues to improve for the Jennie Candlish yard, and you have to give him a pass for his Epsom effort, which still wasn’t a bad run on the figures, but back on a flatter track I’d expect him to pick up the winning thread again. Probe won a big-field Newmarket handicap (marked up in my Unibet blog) with a bit in hand on his previous start, having finished second to Orazio (reopposes) at the Craven meeting. Probe has run mostly with cut in the ground, though this Kingman gelding like his sire acts on most ground. Probe since being equipped with a hood looks a different horse.

Duca Di Como is a top performer in Scandinavia and is overlooked here as he has good Listed performances to his credit. It is also interesting that trainer Cathrine Erichsen has decided to give him his first run over this trip in two years, as he has plenty of form over seven furlongs and a mile, which is always an advantage here. Duca Di Como is a very interesting contender for each way players at a big price.

5.35 Ascot – Golden Gates Stakes Handicap (1m 1f)

Local Dynasty has appeared previously in my Unibet blog as he won three times from four starts last season. He didn’t get a clear run on his only start this season when third to San Antonio in the Listed Dee Stakes at Chester.  Local Dynasty is a smart colt and looks a value bet in a competitive handicap.
