Grand National

THE Thursday of the Randox Grand National Meeting is always a day to savour with four Grade 1 races to start this three-day meeting in style.

The fourth Grade 1 on the card is the Aintree Hurdle over two mile and four furlongs in which Constitution Hill Unibet 8/11 is taking on Lossiemouth Unibet 6/4. Constitution Hill can return to winning form for Unibet Ambassador Nicky Henderson and beat the mare, who won at the Cheltenham Festival in good style, in what is an intriguing renewal over this distance.

Enjoy whether at Aintree or watching #athome on ITV Racing and Racing TV.

See you there!

Cheers,

The Wine Tipster

2:20 Aintree – Boodles Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle Grade 1 (2m 1f)

Mambonumberfive was impressive when winning the Adonis Hurdle at Kempton last time out and he was a different horse from a poor effort at Cheltenham the time before, when settling better as well as looking a lot fitter too. He’s got plenty of size and scope about him to improve, but he’s shown he’s got an engine now, and in a Grade 1 that might not take a lot of winning, he can take another step forward.

2.55 Aintree – Brooklands Golden Miller Chronograph Bowl Chase Grade 1 (3m 1f)

Ahoy Senor will make a bad mistake somewhere, and whilst that inevitably seems to cost him any chance at Cheltenham when he turns up there, it doesn’t stop him here at Aintree, as he’s shown in the last two editions of this, second to Shiskin two years ago and last year when runner-up to Gerri Colombe. This is arguably a slightly easier renewal and at his favourite track, he can bounce back to form with form figures at this meeting of 1122.

4:05 Aintree – Randox Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Chase  (2m 5f)

My Drogo (nap) is a fascinating contender who in his younger days won a Grade 1 over hurdles, yet he has been very lightly raced over the years and this is only his eleventh start under rules. He made his return to action in December after nearly a year off the course when third in a point-to-point and then won his next point-to-point.

My Drogo then rolled back the years at Haydock in February when winning a Hunter Chase and if taking to the Grand National fences he has the class to run a big race.

Unibet 4/1

Yccs Portocervo is rated 131 with My Drogo (see above) top rated at 142 and although he was pulled up in March on his first start since finishing unplaced in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen there were excuses as the trip of two miles was too short for him. This is his distance, and you have to remember ahead of the Summer Plate he had notched up a three-timer, so he knows all about winning.

4:40 Aintree – Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase (2m)

My Mate Mozzie is an obvious enough candidate. He just keeps getting placed in big-field handicaps, using his cruising speed to bring himself easily into races, and although he doesn’t always find a great lot once let down, as was the case again in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham last time, this flatter track looks sure to suit him.
