A CRACKING Saturday of racing ahead with the second day of the Unibet Jumps Season Opener at Chepstow and it is a high-quality card to savour, including the Unibet You’Re On Handicap Hurdle, which looks very competitive. In my younger days this meeting was always seen as the start of the jumps season proper.

At Newmarket, there is a fascinating Dewhurst, in which I’m hoping Chindit will handle the ground for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon. It is certainly tricky, with Thunder Moon looking really impressive at the Curragh last month and also Alkumait really caught the eye at Newbury, however will he stay this extra furlong?

I would be normally be presenting at Newmarket’s Future Champions Festival and the spectacle of 34 runners in the Cesarewitch coming down the Rowley Mile is one of the highlights of my season. In the present situation we are fortunate we can enjoy such good racing coverage #AtHome.

Have a great Saturday.

Cheers

NEWMAKET- SATURDAY

1.45 Newmarket – Zetland Stakes Group 3 (1m 2f)

Kyprios for Aidan O’Brien certainly looked inexperienced on debut when winning in the heavy at Galway last month. This son of Galileo looks sure to come on for that run and the extra one and half furlongs will really suit.

Unibet 7/4 win

2.55 Newmarket – Dewhurst Stakes Group 1 (7f)

Chindit has looked genuine Group 1 material as he has won his three career starts in great style. His last success at the Doncaster St Leger meeting over this trip was really impressive and providing, like pretty much all the field, he handles the ground he will just come out on top here.

Unibet 11/4 win

3.35 Newmarket – Cesarewitch Handicap (2m 2f)

Great White Shark (nap) looked in really good form when winning at Galway over hurdles on her last start over two miles seven furlongs. She had previously finished seventh to Princess Zoe, a winner at Longchamp last weekend, beaten two lengths and this is clearly a strong form line. Last year she met trouble in running in the Cesarewitch and I think she is in much better form this year. Willie Mullins has won the last two renewals and his yard are flying.

Unibet 17/2 each way

Alright Sunshine has ran better than his final places have appeared at Ascot and York in the Ebor last time out after travelling well for a long way. He has won over two miles one furlong and will certainly stay. He is clearly talented, and he is more than capable of a big run here with Unibet Ambassador Jamie Spencer in the plate.

Unibet 28/1 each way

Chepstow

3.57 Chepstow – Handicap Hurdle 2m 3½f

In a very competitive contest Saint Sonnet from the Paul Nicholls yard is very interesting.

Saint Sonnet arrived from France in mid-season and won at Catterick on UK debut before heading to The Festival and Marsh Novices’ Chase. He ran well to finish seventh to Samcro and he looked like two out he was going to get in the mix for fourth place.

His trainer has been talking about the November meeting at Cheltenham over fences, however in the meantime this looks a good opportunity here back over hurdles off what could be a favourable mark of 147.

Unibet 9/1 each way

4.32 Chepstow – Handicap Chase 2m4f

The Bay Birch travelled like the best horse on her Warwick comeback last month jumping and running as enthusiastically as ever. She got tired late on and was picked off the race-fit and in-form Templepark, who again ran well this week. The Bay Birch’s course and distant record in soft stands at 21 (including win in this last year) and she’s looking more feasibly handicapped now.

Unibet 6/1 each way
