Newmarket

AN excellent Saturday of jump and flat racing to look forward to with day two of the Unibet Jump Season Opener at Chepstow, featuring the Native River Handicap Chase and the last race on the card the Unibet Open National Hunt Flat Race.

At Newmarket, the second day of the Dubai Future Champions Festival sees City of Troy Unibet 1/2 on to take the Native Trial’s Dewhurst Stakes Group 1, whilst Pied Piper, another Irish raider, is Unibet 4/1 to strike in the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap with a full field of 34 runners. Pied Piper may not be so effective over this trip on the flat and there are each way opportunities in the field that look more attractive.

Enjoy whether at Chepstow or Newmarket or enjoy watching #athome on ITV Racing.

Cheers!

2.00 Newmarket – Native Trail’s Dewhurst Stakes Group 1 (7f)

Alyanaabi won the Tattersalls Stakes here at the Cambridgeshire meeting in the dying strides when coming with an impressive late run to beat Boiling Point by a short head. That was a considerable step up from his victory at Salisbury on debut, whilst on his previous start he was short of room at Ascot and Alyanaabi, who looks very smart, can reward each way players here with City Of Troy an odds-on favourite.

2.30 Chepstow – Native River Handicap Chase (2m 7½f)

French Paradoxe was a stayer going places last year, and whilst he found the Midlands National a step too far, he was dotting up in soft/heavy ground chases before that winning at Newcastle and Wetherby. He can make the odd mistake which he needs to cut out, but there’s plenty more to come this year.

Unibet 5/1 Win.

2.40 Newmarket – Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (2m 2f)

Temporize (nap) was marked up in my Unibet blog when taking the Goodwood Handicap over two miles four and half furlongs at the Qatar Goodwood Handicap after he had finished a very close second to Blazeon Five (reopposes) at Ascot seven days previously. This was a remarkable effort to win at Goodwood and his trainer Sid Hosie stated that his next target would be the Cesarewitch. This four-year-old has had plenty of time to recovery and he can run a big race off an attractive weight of 8th 10lbs on his first run at Newmarket.

Aztec Empire on his penultimate start looked an unlucky loser at the Ebor Festival at York when second to Forza Orta after being hampered and having to switch from the rail. On his latest start at Haydock when he was favourite there was clearly something amiss when eased out of the race. Earlier in the season this colt won over two miles on the all-weather at Kempton beating Withhold, so trip should be fine for this four-year-old.

The Very Man was admittedly a little disappointing in the Irish Cesarewitch when seventh to Magellan Strait in what were atrocious conditions so you can forgive him that run and instead take a look at his Shergar Cup success over two miles in August on good to soft. This nine-year-old came through from last to first to win very smoothly, with the likes of The Grand Visir, Lords Of The Sea and Zoffee in rear. The Very Man has won earlier in his career on good ground, can run a big race with stamina a clear forte on only his ninth flat appearance.

3.50 Newmarket – Earthlight Darley Stakes Group 3 (1m lf)

Highland Avenue might be the answer to a tricky Darley Stakes as his third to Adayar in the Gordon Richards on his comeback after a long absence suggested he retained much of his ability, but despite that he’s found winning one difficult this year and was disappointing when last seen out at Newbury in the summer. However, he has had a break since then, which he may have needed, and for all he races mainly on better ground, his two efforts with some cut are not far behind the best of his form.  Highland Avenue can get back on track here.
