THE climax of the three-day Ayr Gold Meeting with the Ayr Gold Cup Handicap and Silver Cup Handicap both with a full field of 25 runners in each race, whilst there is strong Group 3 and Listed action too. At the time of writing the going is good to firm, with 5mm of rain forecast for Friday and 4mm for Saturday so still going to be quick.
There are three Group races on a high-class card at Newbury, with the feature the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes with Dhabab and Gubbass, trained by Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon heading the market. At Newmarket they have the Cesarewitch Trial, and Live Your Dream has a strong chance of returning to winning ways after his July Festival victory at the home of flat racing.
Enjoy whether #athome or a racecourse.
Cheers
The Wine Tipster.
2.15 Newbury – Trophy Stakes Group 3 (6f)
Hurricane Ivor my Unibet nap for the Portland Handicap at Doncaster last Saturday makes a quick appearance after that success. He had always looked like he was going to take a big Handicap with further improvement looking sure to come. The five-pound rise from the St. Leger meeting is not prohibitive, ground conditions are right, and he has been found a good opportunity in Group company.

2.30 Ayr – Silver Cup Handicap (6f)
Blackrod (nap) won the apprentice race at York’s Ebor meeting over five furlongs and is five pound well in as he has escaped a penalty there, so he is running off a mark of 91, with his future rating at 96. Blackrod won over this trip at Newmarket’s July meeting in a very competitive contest (Popmaster third, see Gold Cup) and this is definitely his ideal trip. Ground conditions will suit and Blackrod has been well placed.

Mid Winster was a good second to Tweet Tweet (runs Friday at Ayr) at the Ebor meeting at York over the minimum trip. Mid Winster won three starts ago and is equally as effective over six furlongs too. Running off bottom weight this mare has a solid each way chance.

3.05 Ayr – Firth Of Clyde Fillies’ Stakes Group 3 (6f)
Rishes Baar looks a good each-way bet here on her second career start. Clearly little was expected of her Haydock debut, going off at 28-1, but she was too good for the long odds-on Vertiginous, who had previously finished a close fourth in the Lowther on her previous start and the form looks solid. There was lots to like about Rishes Baar’s attitude and whilst she still looked green at times she will come on plenty for that experience

Just Frank had been slightly disappointing this season but won easily at Thirsk last time (well backed to do so) over this trip. The race was won after a couple of furlongs and the 5lb penalty only takes him back to where he was in the summer. Came good in the autumn of last year with form figures of 112 and looks set to do the same again with the forecast rain a plus.

Popmaster can build on his excellent success at Ascot last time out when beating Royal Scimitar comfortably on fast ground. He has gone up seven pounds for that victory and this talented individual has loads of improvement to come, with the quick going perfect for him.
