We have five days of top-class racing to look forward to from Royal Ascot 2021, with all 35 races being shown on ITV Racing. The first day with three Group 1s is always high class and with Palace Pier headlining the Queen Anne Stakes, the first race of Royal Ascot 2021, they are starting off in style. Palace Pier is heavily odds-on, looks unbeatable and could set Frankie Dettori up for a really strong week with plenty of other top class rides including Stradivarius, who is going for his fourth success in the Ascot Gold Cup on Thursday.

The King’s Stand Stakes sees the seven-year-old Battaash going for his second win in what is a much stronger renewal than in 2020. Battaash is having his first start of the season, yet he did the same last year when winning at Royal Ascot last year and remember three winners from the last twenty renewals have been aged seven. Battaash is currently priced at Unibet 15/8, whilst at the other end of the market I have had a small wager on Stone Of Destiny at Unibet 66/1.

The 12,000 racegoers will have a wonderful day enjoying the top-class racing, the fashion and the excellent hospitality.

The #athome TV and radio coverage will mean that everyone can get involved in Royal Ascot 2021 on a sunny Summer Tuesday.

Enjoy!

Cheers

2.30 Ascot – Queen Anne Stakes Group 1 (1m)

Lord Glitters (each way) was included in my five Unibet ante-post each way Royal Ascot selections piece last week and this evergreen eight-year-old is still right in the mix to chase home Palace Pier. Lord Glitters didn’t run last year because of a minor setback, having won the Queen Anne in 2019, following up on his second in the 2018 renewal. Lord Glitters won twice from four starts in Meydan in the first quarter of 2021 and then came fourth to Palace Pier in the Lockinge after a two-month break when having the ideal prep race for the Queen Anne.

Unibet 20/1 each way

3.05 Ascot – Coventry Stakes Group 2 (6f)

Dhabab for John and Thady Gosden was the pick of the paddock at Leicester and went to post very well. He is certainly solidly built, has plenty of size about him and despite a bit of greenness two furlongs out, picked up very well to score easily on racecourse debut on good to firm. Dhabab looked a very likeable sort, who will really progress and has a good chance here on his second career start.

3.40 Ascot – King’s Stand Stakes Group 1 (5f)

Arecibo (each way) can gain a place behind Battaash as since joining Robert Cowell at the end of last season he has really raised his game this season and is finally seeing out his races. Arecibo has two wins from three starts in 2021 and was hampered when unplaced in the Palace House Group 3 at Newmarket. He has always looked like a talented individual and has winning form on good to firm too. Unibet Ambassador Jamie Spencer takes the ride.

Unibet 28/1 each way

4.20 Ascot – St James’ Palace Stakes Group 1 (7f)

Chindit (nap) for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon was marked up in my five Unibet ante-post each way Royal Ascot selections piece last week. Since then his trainer Richard Hannon has said: “We are very happy with him at home, he deserves a big one”.

Chindit certainly remains overlooked after his 2,000 Guineas fifth, when the race was all about the other side of the course at Newmarket and also the dip on the Rowley Mile doesn’t suit him.

Last season he won the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on quick going and here at Ascot a Listed contest with the same ground conditions last August.

He really impressed on those occasions and after his Greenham success at Newbury this season he can take his first Group 1.

Unibet 17/2 each way

5.00 Ascot – Ascot Stakes Handicap (2m 4f)

Rayapour can strike here for Willie Mullins, who we know likes to target these races. Rayapour joined his yard from France after a good flat career in France and came third in a novice hurdle at Kilbeggan last month on his first start for 22 months. He is bound to come on plenty for that run and being by Mastercraftsman should handle the quick conditions.

Unibet 6/1

5.35 Ascot – Wolferton Stakes Listed (1m 2f)

Blue Cup is certainly talented and if everything goes his way from stall two then he has a good chance here. At the Spring Meeting at Epsom he had terrible luck in running to finish fifth, whilst at the Derby Festival he cruised to victory after the pace had been too frenetic and he was able to smoothly move through from the back of the field. He has proven form on good to firm from Sandown last July when beating a good field with ease by five lengths.
