British Champions Day

THE QIPCO British Champions Day 2025 will be run on good ground, ensuring there will be no excuses, a dry forecast, and a racecard where all the equine stars have held their ground, including in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes Group 1 with Calandagan, Delacroix, Ombudsman, and a fantastic supporting cast list.

British Champions Day starts with the Long Distance Cup, in which Trawlerman is Unibet 1/2 to follow up on his Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and success in the Lonsdale Cup at York last time out, with Sweet William 11/2 following him home that day, and he looks likely to do the same for a yard double.

The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes sees Field Of Gold, Fallen Angel, and Rosallion for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon take each other on.

Enjoy whether at Ascot or watching #athome on ITV Racing.

See you there!

Cheers

2.05 Ascot – Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes Group 1 (6f)

Big Mojo (NAP) has shown as a three-year-old that six furlongs is what really suits him with his Sprint Cup success at Haydock from the favoured high draw when beating a late challenging Kind Of Blue by one and a quarter lengths, when running on well at the finish.

This was a strong performance, and he had already shown in Group 1 company in the July Cup, when second to No Half Measures after having to move forward earlier than he would have liked, that he was improving.

Big Mojo has Ascot form too with his Group 3 victory in April on his seasonal debut, and he has a strong chance of adding another Group 1 success.

Rayevka delivered a fine performance in the Commonwealth Cup when third to Time For Sandals and on her latest performance at Longchamp, she returned to form after a disappointing run, finishing runner-up to Monteille over five furlongs.

Rayevka will benefit from the return to this distance, the quick ground suits and you can expect a big run for each way players.

2.45 Ascot – Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes Group 1 (1m 3½f)

One Look looks an each-way selection, providing this doesn’t come too soon after Longchamp, where she ran a belter to be beaten narrowly by Barnavera after coming from off the pace and not getting a clear run a furlong out.

One Look had finished runner-up to Barnavera at the Curragh on her penultimate appearance when doing all her best work late on too.

The filly is stepping up in distance, and given her pedigree, she looks sure to get the extra two furlongs on this good ground. There is plenty to like about this genuine filly, who has finished in the first two in nine of her thirteen career starts, and One Look has a plum draw in stall 10.

3.25 Ascot – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Group 1 (1m)

Rosallion for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon has been runner-up three times this season, when beaten a nose at Royal Ascot, a neck at Glorious Goodwood, and a short head at Longchamp.

He has won over this trip in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2024, and in 2025 he has the form lines which are key for this Group 1, which has seen seven of the last winners priced at 5/1 or less.

Rosallion can secure a well-deserved first success of 2025 with conditions in his favour.

4.05 Ascot – Qipco Champion Stakes Group 1 (1m 2f)

Ombudsman was mighty impressive in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot after having trouble in running and challenging later than ideal to win by an easy two lengths in the end, with Anmaat, who reopposes, in second.

He was then beaten by the very smart Delacroix in the Eclipse at Sandown in what was a strangely run Group 1 from a tactical perspective.

Ombudsman then reversed the form with Delacroix in the Juddmonte International when showing a real turn of foot to win by three and a half lengths in what was a stellar performance.

He is improving all the time and can come out on top in a very deep renewal.

4.40 Ascot – Balmoral Handicap (1m)

Cerulean Bay is a four-year-old who has hit form and is going for a three-timer on the back of a win over this distance at Goodwood in September and at the Sussex course last week over this same trip.

He is in the best form of his career and can continue on an upward trajectory.

Great Acclaim has won twice in 2025 and been runner-up three times, including at Ascot two starts ago when he finished in this position to Native Warrior and fourth to the same rival at the Berkshire course.

He has won over seven furlongs and a mile, whilst good ground or quicker is certainly in Great Acclaim’s favour and he can reward each-way players.
