THE Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes has been all about City Of Troy, who looked a superstar in the way he won the Dewhurst and with positive reports coming from Ballydoyle he is the only runner for the Aidan O’Brien team.
The main danger is clearly Rosallion, for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon, after his powerful performance at Ascot last July in a Listed race when winning by 4 lengths, with the form working out very strongly. It didn’t work out tactically for Rosallion in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster when third to Iberian, who was sixth in the Dewhurst and lines up here. Rosallion’s success in the Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp, when beating Unquestionable put him right back in the spotlight. Reports from Richard Hannon’s yard in East Everleigh have been very positive with Rosallion currently Unibet 11/2.
Notable Speech has certainly caught the eye with his all-weather performances clocking some very good times too and is the only runner for Charlie Appleby. This isn’t the conventional approach to a classic and it will be interesting to see how this exciting prospect performs. Night Raider has been talked about too and again has taken the all-weather route.
Task Force is my idea of the each way selection, though he hasn’t taken the conventional route either having only run over six furlongs, however this Frankel colt has raced at Newmarket.

1.45 Newmarket – Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (6f)
Apollo One (nap) made a few appearances in my Unibet blogs in 2023 when runner-up in both the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood when beaten a neck by Aberama Gold. He started the 2023 season off by finishing a close third to Probe in this race last year and lines up after having no chance on his last start of 2023 from a poor draw at York, whilst on his penultimate appearance in the Beverley Bullet over 5f when third over a trip too sharp for him. He’s fairly impervious to the ground so won’t mind a bit of rain, stall 5 looks ideal to work from, and he’s proven he can go well fresh, so there’s plenty to like about his chances.

2.20 Newmarket – Suffolk Stakes (Heritage Handicap (1m 1f)
Dutch Decoy will find this trip right at the top end of his stamina, but he’s got the form to win this, and he was unlucky not to win over a mile here at the Craven meeting, narrowly denied by Hafeet Alain, who reopposes here, but that means he’s almost a winner without a penalty and can take advantage of that today.
Dutch Decoy was only beaten two lengths over this course and distance in the Cambridgeshire last year, looking sure to go close again.

Bopedro at Newmarket in 2023 finished 1313 on his four starts, which on his most recent appearance was a third in the Cambridgeshire over this specialist trip last September.
Bopedro has had two underwhelming starts on the all-weather in 2024, however after seven weeks off he finished eighth to Hafeet Alain (reopposes here) on returning to the Rowley Mile at the Craven meeting, with Dutch Decoy, who reopposes in second. On that occasion Bopedro certainly wasn’t ideally placed and he was not given a hard race so expect a much stronger performance by this ground versatile performer.
2.55 Newmarket – Palace House Stakes Group 3 (5f)
Mitbaahy barely knows how to run a poor race and ran a cracker to be a close fourth to Washington Heights in the Abernant Stakes at the Craven meeting on his reappearance, doing best of those held up in a race where it paid to be on the pace. He can take on the favourite Beautiful Diamond.

3.35 Newmarket – Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes Group 1 (1m)
City Of Troy won his maiden at the Curragh and then came to the July Festival, beating the subsequent Craven winner Haatem by 6½ lengths in the Superlative Stakes, putting him right in the spotlight. City Of Troy followed up in the Dewhurst on soft going on the Rowley mile to win by 3½ lengths from Alyanaabi, when making all and moving clear impressively. That performance received effusive praise from his trainer Aidan O’Brien, who sounded equally excited after a piece of work by City Of Troy last week. The Dewhurst was over seven furlongs, and this Justify colt will easily get a mile, whilst he currently leads the Derby market at Unibet 6/4.

Task Force is my each way selection, although he is yet to race over further than 6 furlongs this Frankel colt will easily get a mile. This is not the conventional approach to the 2,000 Guineas and you would like to see the yard in better form, however it is worth rewatching Task Force’s performance in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket when second to the very smart Vandeek over an inadequate trip. Talk Force certainly took time to settle and then came through smoothly late on to show he could be very exciting over this trip. He has importantly that Newmarket experience and he can reward each way players.
