GOODWOOD – WEDNESDAY

2:25 G3 Oak Tree Stakes

Magical Sunset (David Egan)

She didn’t stay a mile up the hill at Sandown last time so the drop back in trip will definitely help, and she’ll really love the soft ground. I was happy with her work on Saturday and she comes here in good shape.

3:00 G3 Molecombe Stakes

Baheer (Pat Dobbs)

He is a bull of a horse, in fact he used to act like a bull in a china shop, so we had to get him gelded to calm him down, which has definitely helped, but he still retains plenty of ‘character’. There is no doubt he was disappointing on debut, when we really thought he’d win, but he obviously learnt plenty from it because he came out and won very impressively at Newbury – and on that evidence, I’m sure he’d have finished very close in the Norfolk had he not been withdrawn at the start. This is big step up, and I’m not sure if he’ll handle the ground, but some of the work he’s done at home has been extraordinary and he could end up top class.

3:35 G1 Sussex Stakes

Chindit (Pat Dobbs)

He deserves to win a big one because he’s been knocking at the door and has been in very good form this season. It’s an extremely hot race, and Paddington has looked very good, so he has to pull out a career best, but he’s in good shape and deserves to take his chance. He wouldn’t want the ground any softer, though.

4:10

Dapperling (Sean Levey)

She put up an excellent effort when second in the Super Sprint and a reproduction of that would give her every chance here. She’s got loads of speed and has form on softish ground so should go very well.

4:45

Rousay (Sean Levey)

She hasn’t been in fantastic form so far this season, but has a great record at this track, finishing placed on all three starts, including second in this race last year. She’s still plenty high enough in the weights, but goes on any ground and could run well at decent odds.

Classic (Pat Dobbs)

He’s always threatened to be a very good colt, and this time last year we thought he’d end up our Guineas horse, but while things haven’t quite gone as expected, he’s nevertheless developed into a smart Handicapper and he’s only 2lbs for an easy win at Sandown last time. That will have done his confidence a lot of good and he’s the sort of horse who could notch up a sequence.

Dark Thirty (Sean Levey)

He’s been very consistent all season and I think seven furlongs is his optimum. The Handicapper has him just where he wants, but he handles soft ground and has a rock solid chance.
