NEWMARKET – THURSDAY
1:20 Maiden Fillies’
Desert (Pat Dobbs)
She’s a lovely filly from a family we know very well having trained her dam, Jewel In The Sand, who won twice on the July Course including what was the G2 Cherry Hinton (now Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes) and she’s bred some decent sorts including Brian Epstein. She ran green on debut at Newbury but still finished her race well on ground that was pretty testing so she’ll be much happier on the quicker surface here and I do expect a lot of improvement. We’ve got her entered in all the big sales races and she’s a filly who’s always shown plenty in her work so hopefully she’ll go close.
2:25 G2 Tattersalls July Stakes
Lusail (Pat Dobbs)
He’s done absolutely nothing wrong in three starts and I really liked his attitude when winning here last time. We’ve always liked him and I don’t think the drop back in trip will pose any sort of problem because he’s a versatile colt and seems to go on any ground. His sire, Mehmas, won this race for us in the same colours in 2016 so hopefully this lad can follow suit.
4:45 Handicap
Dingle (Pat Dobbs)
He never really figured in the Esher Cup at Sandown last time and just didn’t run his race but he’s much better than that, although the going is quite important to him, hence we’ve pulled him out the last twice because of the soft ground so hopefully the rain stays away because there is a decent prize in him and I think a stiff mile is just what he wants.
We’ve got plenty of other runners at HQ over the next few days including Snow Lantern who is set to take her chance in the G1 Falmouth Stakes on Friday. She ran an excellent race in the Coronation at Ascot on ground that wasn’t ideal and I’ve been really happy with her since, so she goes there in good shape and I’ve got a couple of very nice two year olds to unleash as well. We have a few runners down at Newbury where Robjon looks our best chance of a winner in the 6:20 and Millie Lou should go well in the 6:50 at Epsom.
