NEWMARKET – SUNDAY
3:40 G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas
MAMMAS GIRL (KEVIN STOTT)
She was very good in the Nell Gwyn and while, on pedigree, a mile doesn’t scream out, I’m quite confident she’ll get it because she’s a relaxed filly with a high cruising speed and has a good turn of foot. Her dam was placed over a mile and a quarter and her half brother, Master Of War, who we trained, won over a mile, so there’s definitely a reason to believe she should get it. Everything has gone well since Newmarket last time and while this is obviously a much tougher task, she’s going the right way and is unbeaten at the track. We’ve always held her in very high regard and, as long as there’s not too much rain, she has to be taken very seriously.

🗣️ “Do I think she’ll get a mile? Look at the race. It looked like she would. Her pedigree is all speed but she’s long striding and doesn’t pull. She’s sensible. Why won’t she?”

POWERDRESS (SEAN LEVEY)
I was delighted with her first run back (in a year) at Newmarket last time and she has improved a lot since then. There’s a bit more stamina in her pedigree so I wouldn’t have any concerns trip-wise and she’s a filly with a bright future. Whether she’s up to winning a Guineas, only time will tell, but her work has been good and she handles the track.

Mashadi (Kevin Stott)
He’s a smart colt by Blue Point, who will be a stallion to follow this season, and his work has been very good. There is plenty of speed in his pedigree, and he shows lots of it at home.

Hectic (Ryan Moore)
He ran a great race at Newbury on his seasonal bow, which was his first since being gelded, and the step up to a mile will definitely suit. The Handicapper hasn’t taken any chances and put him up to 93, but this is a small step down in grade and if he can put two runs together he’d have a serious chance.
Dark Thirty (Sean Levey)
He’s been slightly disappointing since scoring on debut last year but ran a much better race last time and I think the return to a mile will help.
