QATAR GOODWOOD FESTIVAL – SATURDAY

1:05 Maiden

Classic (Pat Dobbs)

He didn’t get any kind of run on debut at Newbury on his debut so was an unlucky loser and he’s a colt we think an awful lot of. His dam is the only offspring of George Washington so there’s a nice story to it and I think this horse is the real deal. I’m hopeful he could live up to his name and develop into a Classic contender.

3:20 Stewards’ Cup

Typhoon Ten (Pat Dobbs)

He’s having his first run of the season so it will be a tough task against race fit horses but this has been the plan for a while and I’m happy with his work at home. We’ve taken him away to gallop so he’s as straight as I can get him without real match fitness and he could run well at a bit of a price.

3:55 Handicap

Gisburn (Sean Levey)

He’s always been a decent colt but things haven’t gone his way for one reason or another, and he’s pretty ground dependant so I’ll be keeping an eye on the weather because he doesn’t want it too fast. This should be easier than Newmarket last time, though, and the step back up to seven is the right thing to do.

Laasudood (Jim Crowley)

I thought he’d win last time but he ran a funny sort of race and never really looked happy and Christophe said he wasn’t in love with the ground, but it’s going to be a similar story here so we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe he didn’t quite stay the trip up the hill so I’m hoping the drop back to seven on a sharp track like this will see him in a better light. He’s a good horse and I’m not writing him off just yet.

4:30 Handicap

Oh Herberts Reign (Pat Dobbs)

He’s got to bounce back from a couple of below par runs but this is a drop down in grade and 11f around here might just suit. The handicapper has given him a few pounds back which is a help and he has a reasonably solid each way chance.

NEWMARKET

1:20

Nancy Angel (Dane O’Neill)

She needs to show a little bit more than she did over course and distance a couple of weeks ago but it should have brought her on, although I’d say she’ll be better in Handicaps.

1:55

Immortal Beauty (Rossa Ryan)

I thought she would win on her debut at Ascot and I can’t believe she still hasn’t won a race but she’s a filly with plenty of ability and I’ll be disappointed if she isn’t bang there on her Nursery debut.

3:00

Sir Rumi (Rossa Ryan)

He ran ok at Windsor last time when trying to make all but things didn’t work out so we’ve given him a bit of a break to freshen him up and he seems back in good shape. The Handicapper has dropped him another few pounds and the step down to class three should help as well.

3:35

Kodius Sangarius (Silvestre De Sousa)

She’s generally quite consistent and I thought she ran well at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. There are only six runners so she should be able to get into a nice rhythm and I’m sure she’ll run another solid race.

4:05

Razzle Dazzle (Andrea Atzeni)

I was very happy with his run at Ascot last time where he wasn’t beaten far and it was a definite improvement on his previous run. The step down to seven furlongs will be a big plus and he has a decent chance.

Al Shibli (Dane O’Neill)

He was a very smart two-year-old but had a few niggly issues so we sent him back to Shadwell and they’ve done a great job in looking after him before he came back to us. He might just need this first run back but he’s been working well and still has time to develop into a very smart horse.

We’ve got a few runners elsewhere this evening and Ciao Adios bids to back up her Salisbury win in the 7:45 at Lingfield but she is higher in the weights now. Mr Tyrell would probably be our best chance in the 6:15. He would’ve won last time but for his saddle slipping and I fancy him to go very close.
