NEWMARKET – SUNDAY

2:20 Dahlia Stakes

Billesdon Brook (Sean Levey)

We had a fantastic day with her this time last year when causing a bit of a surprise in the 1000 Guineas and it was brilliant for all her owners who are a really good bunch to train for. She may not have stayed 1m2f in the Nassau at Goodwood and I’m inclined to draw a line through her last run in the Sun Chariot. So we’re starting out afresh here and I’m very happy where we are with her. The ground should be absolutely perfect and this looks a very good place to start her campaign so I’d be quite hopeful she can put up a very good performance. She’s been ready to go for a while so is as straight as I can get her at home.

3:35 G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas

Star Terms (James Doyle)

She was only beaten a neck in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp in October when she got short of room and I thought she put up a perfectly respectable performance (only beaten a length) in the Fred Darling on her reappearance last month in a race she would have needed badly. I think she could be even better over further, as she’s bred for it, and we’ve kept her in the Oaks. Obviously we’re in at the deep end here but her form entitles her to be in the thick of things and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her go very well at decent odds.

4:10 Maiden Stakes

Threat (Tom Marquand)

He’s a well bred colt from the family of Light Shift who has been showing all the right signs at home.  Newmarket Maidens are always good races but this is a very small field so you’d have to be pretty hopeful of him putting up a big show. He’ll improve for the experience but might not have to that much if what he does at home is anything to go by.
