ROYAL ASCOT – WEDNESDAY
2:30 G2 Queen Mary Stakes
Kemble (Sean Levey)
She showed a lot of speed to win easily at Windsor on her second start and I liked the way she finished the race. The second has come out and won at Bath so the form has a strong look to it and I’ve been particularly happy with her wellbeing over the past week or so. A fast paced race like this will really suit her running style and I think she is improving with experience. This is obviously a very competitive race but she has a lot of ability and is certainly in with a chance.
Partridge (Pat Dobbs)
I thought she would win at Salisbury on her first run but she got into plenty of trouble and the line just came too soon and then she bumped into a smart filly of Karl Burke’s at Haydock last time but they were both well clear so still ran with credit. She’s a nice moving filly with plenty of scope so I’ve got no concerns ground wise and I think she has the ability to run a huge race if she can get some luck.
4:20 G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes
Anna Nerium (Tom Marquand)
I was delighted to see her win the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom on Derby day as she provided us with our 1000th winner and went a place better than 2018 so she deserved to get her head back in front. I’m not convinced that she has to have soft ground but when it slows the others down she tends to go through it better than the rest. A mile on ground with cut is probably her optimum and while she’s not really much to look at she’s got a very big heart and is extremely consistent. It’s a big field but her form is right up there and I don’t think she’ll be far away.
5:00 Royal Hunt Cup
Red Starlight (Tom Marquand)
I thought she’d win at Musselburgh last time but she didn’t really pick up as well as she can and seemed to get outpaced so the step back up to a mile will suit much better, as will the fast pace. It’s the Royal Hunt Cup so I couldn’t be massively confident she’ll win but she has a lot of ability and has been in great form at home. She’s finished second and third in both her starts at Ascot so far which surely means a win is imminent!
War Glory (was 1st reserve, now ridden by Sean Levey)
He is a proper star and I really hope he gets a run as he’s in great form and absolutely thriving since his last win at Chelmsford when giving 6lbs to the second. The Handicapper put him up to 99 so he’s off a career high mark but could easily run into a place.
5:35 Listed Windsor Castle Stakes
Temple Of Heaven (Sean Levey)
He’s a very tough colt who showed a great attitude to win a decent Novice at Newbury last time despite getting involving in plenty of bumping and barging, but that is valuable experience for running in a race like this and he’s done plenty of work with Threat. We had a few options for him, including the Coventry, but he’s got a lot of speed and a great turn of foot so this was the obvious race. I’ve been very happy with his work and he’s pretty street wise so I see no reason why he can’t be bang there.
