DONCASTER – THURSDAY

2:10 – Wetherby's Scientific Stakes

Oh Herberts Reign (Pat Dobbs)

His form has been rock solid all the way through and he gained a deserved success at Thirsk on Saturday when winning with plenty to spare. That was over seven furlongs but the drop back down to six won’t be an issue at all here because there’s going to be plenty of pace in a field of this size and he ran very well in a similar race to this at York last month. We’re backing him up after just five days but he’s fit as a flea so we’ve done nothing with him at home and the weather’s been nice which means we’ve been able to give him plenty of time in our grass pens to keep him fresh. You can never be confident in races like this, but his form is there for all to see and he must have a serious chance.

Groom (Hollie Doyle)

He would’ve needed his first run back after a couple of months off at Kempton last week so I’d expect him to be much sharper here and this sort of race could really play to his strengths because he’s a strong traveller with a nice turn of foot and he could easily run well at decent odds.

System (Jim Crowley)

She’s a very smart filly and in hindsight her run behind Zain Claudette at Ascot was pretty good bearing in mind she came out and won the Lowther. She’s better off at the weights with two of our runners (Oh Herberts Reign and Symphony Perfect) now, so is entitled to finish much closer to them on these revised terms and I quite like her chance.

Desert (Thore Hammer Hansen)

I have to admit she was quite disappointing last time at Leicester, and nothing has come to light so we’ll just have to give her the benefit of doubt because she is much better than that. She’s been in good form at home, though and is qualified to run in this so we might as well give it a shot, but I couldn’t be entirely confident off the back of her latest performance.

Symphony Perfect (Hayley Turner)

She’s a very tough filly with a great attitude and gets on well with Hayley Turner who was on board when winning at Bath, and her subsequent efforts have been very good too, not least when finishing fourth in the big sales race at York last time. A reproduction of that would see her bang there and she definitely represents great each way value.
