NEWMARKET – THURSDAY
1:15 Maiden
Vitruve (Ryan Moore)
He’s a very smart colt by Toronado out of Strawberrydaiquiri who was a high class mare for Sir Michael Stoute so he’s certainly bred to be winning races. Newmarket maidens are notoriously competitive and this is no exception but he’s a very nice horse who is done everything right at home and I’m hopeful he can run well.
1:50 Nursery
Mark Of The Man (Ryan Moore)
He continues to improve and improve and I thought his effort under top weight at Doncaster was very good but the Handicapper has taken no chances and put him up another 2lbs which is a bit like rubbing salt into the wound so there’s absolutely no margin for error here. He’s in good form, however, will have no issues with the track and ground and will run another solid race.
3:00 G3 Tattersalls Stakes
Ventura Tormenta (Pat Dobbs)
He wasn’t beaten far in the Flying Childers over five furlongs but probably found that trip a little too short so we’re going back up to seven and the quicker the ground the better. We’ve always thought a great deal of him and his experience will count for plenty on a track like this.
