WEDNESDAY – DONCASTER
1:10 Maiden
Reverend Hubert (Pat Dobbs)
He’s a smart colt by Zoffany who has done everything right at home. We’ve taken him away a couple of times so he’s pretty forward and this looks a nice starting point. As with a lot of ours, he’s entitled to improve for the run but he’s ready to go and with a bit of luck could run a nice race.
Torture (Sean Levey)
He’s quite a sharp colt at home but works well enough to suggest he’s more than capable of winning races and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do on the track. Sean has ridden him plenty at home so knows him well and I’m reasonably hopeful of a bold show.
1:40 Nursery
Power Station (Rossa Ryan)
He didn’t disgrace himself by any means at York last time behind Happy Romance who has since made that form look even stronger by winning the Dick Poole at Salisbury last week, but that’s irrelevant. I did like the way this colt stayed on at the finish so the extra furlong here will definitely suit and he’s been in good form at home. If the rain stays away I think he has a decent chance.
Concessions (Sean Levey)
The vet examined her after Sandown last time and found she had an irregular heart beat so we can easily draw a line through that and a reproduction of her good effort in a Listed race at Newmarket would give her every chance in this. She stays well and will handle the ground.
2:40 Leger Legends
Flying Dragon (Pat Dobbs)
He’s an extremely consistent horse who’s been in very good form all season and was actually third in this race last year. Dobbsy is a living legend on our patch so it makes sense for him to ride the winner of a prestigious race like this!
In The Cove (Rossa Ryan)
This is his level and he’s pretty versatile ground wise, although is arguably more effective on soft so any rain that falls will be a big help. I’m happy with him at home and with a bit of luck he can run well.
3:15 G3 Sceptre Stakes
Cloak Of Spirits (Andrea Atzeni)
I still maintain she’s a very high-class filly and she ran extremely well over in France last time under the circumstances and we pulled her out of Goodwood because of the ground so hopefully it will dry out nicely for her because she’s in great form at home and put in a particularly good piece of work on Friday. She’s got a lot of natural speed so the drop back down a furlong won’t be an issue at all and fancy her to run a huge race.
3:45 Handicap
Fox Power (Pat Dobbs)
He’s a very talented colt who didn’t run too badly in the Royal Hunt Cup and we’ve given him a nice break since then to freshen him up and I think the step up to 1m2f could bring out a little bit more improvement but it will need to because he’s plenty high enough in the weights. That said, his work has been good and I wouldn’t write him off just yet.
