Cambridgeshire Friday

A relatively quiet start to the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket but we are much busier on Saturday with entries across six meetings, so hopefully there will be a few winners among them.

We had a good weekend at Newbury, but I must admit, like all of you, I wasn’t expecting to see Night Patrol win at massive odds of 125/1! He’s a horse we’ve always thought more than capable of winning races, but more likely in Handicaps so it was a very nice surprise to see him do what he did under an enterprising ride by John Fahy.

Christian David showed a lovely attitude to win under Tom (Marquand), also at pretty juicy odds, and he seems to have come out of it well. The Handicapper has nudged him up another few pounds to 91 and he might run again on Saturday.

FRIDAY – NEWMARKET

4:10

Battle Apple (Sean Levey)

He ran much better than the form figure suggests last time (at Doncaster) and I think seven furlongs suits him well. There are a few unknown quantities in the race, but this is a step down in grade, and he shouldn’t be discounted lightly.

4:45

Mr Baloo (Alec Voikhansky)

He’s generally very consistent, but his last few runs have been slightly below par, so he needs to show a little more spark before I could consider him a serious betting proposition; that said, he’s in good shape and Alec’s 3lbs claim is an obvious help under these race conditions.

Boyfriend (Sean Levey)

He’s had a nice break since Goodwood at the start of August, which has done him the world of good, and he is working really nicely at home. He handles any ground and boasts very solid claims.
