SATURDAY – NEWBURY

2:10 G3 Fred Darling

Come On Leicester (Silvestre De Sousa)

She’s a very speedy filly who we’ve always thought a lot of and bar a bad run in a G1 at Newmarket last July she’s been very consistent and I wanted to get a win under her belt last backend so she could end her season with plenty of confidence, so it’s perhaps ironic that she did it at Leicester! We’re obviously stepping up in trip here and she’s not guaranteed to stay but we’ll know much more about where we go for the rest of the season and she will need to settle here but this looks a good starting point.

Star Terms (Tom Marquand)

I like this filly and think she has a right chance. She almost won the Prix Marcel Boussac but got badly short of room and was only beaten by a neck so while it was very frustrating, she hardly lost anything in defeat. She’s quite forward but a few of our fillies haven’t quite come in their coats yet so she should improve a fair bit from this. At this stage she would be our Guineas filly and I hope she runs a big race.

2:40 G3 Greenham Stakes

Boitron (Silvestre De Sousa)

He’s wintered particularly well and has really grown and strengthened up into a strong colt who we are all very excited about. The form of his fourth in the Jean Luc Legardere looks good and I thought he could have finished closer if he wasn’t quite so far back, but he’s proved he’s a horse with a lot of ability who’s already won twice at the course. We haven’t got Too Darn Hot to worry about so I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do. He could potentially be top class.

Urban Icon (Tom Marquand)

I have always liked this horse and his work has been very good. We took him and a few others away to work at Kempton last week so he’s pretty straight and Tom is absolutely raving about him. He put up a good performance at Salisbury under a penalty on his last run and I think he’ll have no problems whatsoever with the step up in trip; in fact I think he’ll improve for it. We’re all in the same boat in that everyone is finding out about their respective runners and if they’re genuine Classic contenders but on what this lad has shown I’d be quite confident of a very bold show.

He’Zanarab (Sean Levey)

He’s perhaps the dark horse in the race and it will be interesting to see how he fares stepping up in trip as he has a lot of speed, but he’s by Footstepsinthesand, who won a Guineas, and the ground wont be an issue as he’s already won on good to firm and good to soft. I’ve been very happy with his work and while he’s got to step up, I think he’s improved over the winter and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him put up a good performance if he’s trained on.

3:15 Handicap

Red Starlight (Tom Marquand)

She’s had a run already this season when second at Doncaster and I certainly expect her to have improved for it. I really like her attitude and there still may be a little more to come from her off this mark. She’s drawn right up against the rail which may or may not help in a field this size, but she’s been in great form at home and is a very likeable filly. I think she has a great chance.

3:50 Maiden

Michigan Blue (Rossa Ryan)

This is a good maiden but I think it’s the same race we won with Raymond Tusk last year and while this horse isn’t quite at that level just yet, he has lots of ability and is pretty street-wise having been in training last season but was never quite ready to run so we left off him and got him in nice and early to start back again ready for the beginning of this year.

5:00 Handicap

Mushtaq (Rossa Ryan)

He’s arguably better over 1m but we’re giving this trip another shot as he settles well in his races although I wouldn’t want much more rain as all of his best form is on good to firm. I’ve been happy with him at home, however, and this looks a good starting point.
