Kempton

1.20pm

Commanche Red

He looks a great ride to pick up. He has run two solid races against good horses on his recent starts, most recently in the Rising Stars at Wincanton, and I think a mark of 137 looks fair on those efforts. He has won in the soft around here over hurdles too, and the trip is fine. He looks to have a good chance.

1.55pm

Jarveys Plate

He had excuses for his below-par run at Haydock last time as he had travel issues, and got there late, so I would draw a line through that run. He was previously very good when beating Reserve Tank at Chepstow and I reckon the step up to 3m on a flat track, with cheek pieces on, could see him in a very good light. I think he has a good chance, in fact, even allowing for the company he is keeping here.

2.30pm

Quick Grabim

I’d say he has been in the yard for three months or so, and he has done everything nicely since he has arrived. He is obviously a very exciting addition and some of his form in Ireland for Willie Mullins, notably his Grade 1 win in the Royal Bond, makes him a player here. It’s a big ask obviously, but he deserves his place at the table.

3.40pm

Star Of Lanka

Another great ride to pick up thanks to my agent Dave Roberts. I haven’t ridden him before but I’m a big fan of the form of his Newbury third, and hopefully the first-time cheek pieces will see him improve, too. He just looks to have a very solid chance to me, albeit in a very competitive handicap, and he could give them plenty to do.
