He must have an excellent chance if handling this heavy ground – and I think he will. He clearly shaped very well when second on his first two starts for us, and we expected him to run a big race in a handicap at Cheltenham last time. But he didn’t jump as well as he can there and he was always on the back foot after a mistake 3 out. He actually did very well to finish as close as he did that day, and even the bare form of that effort gives him leading claims. The ground is the question, not his ability, but I reckon he will handle it okay.

He took a while to warm to his task on his racing debut at Uttoxeter back in October, but he stayed on really well to take third late on from a mile back. He needs to improve a fair bit to beat the Sandown second Flemenstide but he is decent, and I reckon this test in deep ground around here could really suit him.
