He has run twice within 24 hours at this meeting in the past, both times very effectively, and he won this very race back in 2018. Whether or not that works quite as well now he is an 11yo we shall see after running okay here on Friday – and I suppose he has had an extra day’s rest this year – but he clearly loves the track and the ground and he is a lot lower than in the weights this time around, too. And the race has cut up a fair bit, too. The step back to 2m is another positive, and he did travel well for a long way until getting a bit tired here on Friday.

He lost out to a 100/1 chance on his debut at Warwick and that winner was well beaten in the mares’ bumper at Aintree, but let’s focus on my horse. I thought he ran a great race on debut and he has learned a lot from it.
