Cheltenham Festival Tuesday

1.55pm

Shishkin

The first thing to say about Shishkin is that I am not going to tell you anything you don’t already know yourself. The build-up to Cheltenham is such that every top horse like him is analysed and, updated on, at every possible opportunity. But, of course, we are hoping he will win here. And, yes, I hope and trust he will but you should never be surprised if you are beaten in any race at Cheltenham. Our task has been made easier with Energumene being out but we know Allmankind is another hugely talented horse who will be taking no prisoners here, and I like the way Captain Guinness and Franco De Port have been shaping in Ireland. But if my horse runs his race, then they all have him to worry about. He did brilliantly to win the Supreme here last season and we have been thrilled with the way he has taken to chasing at Kempton and Doncaster. He has everything you want and look for in a chaser. He comes here in great nick, and we think he is the top league, but the time for talking has finished now.

2.30pm

Pym

The soft ground was against him in last year’s RSA but he has proven himself around here with a defeat of Imperial Aura last season and hopefully the ground will continue to dry out for him now, especially after Sunday's rain. He was possibly a bit below par in the Rehearsal at Newcastle last time but he was previously very good for me at Sandown. A mark of 153 makes his life tough against less exposed types such as Happygolucky but he is in there with a fair each way chance, I think. Unibet are paying AN EXTRA PLACE on this race. T&Cs apply.

3.40pm

Floressa

She clearly has it all to do against the likes of Concertista and Roksana but she is only 10lb shy of that pair and the step up in trip could see her go a long way to bridging that gap. She probably ran as well as she has ever done when trying to give weight to Miranda at Doncaster last time, in spite of the ground being a touch too soft for her. She has been in good form all season, and hopefully this extra 4f or so will see her step forward. The better the ground, the better her chance of hitting the frame, and I do think she will improve for the trip.
