Hyland
There aren’t many runners, but it is a deep race regarding talent. Buddy One is a big threat if he can translate his hurdling form to fences. Springwell Bay was good at Chepstow, and Resplendent Grey is in top form, too. But I was very impressed with Hyland here last time, and he must have a solid chance on that run, for all he picked up a 3lb penalty for it. He’ll enjoy the ground.
Jonbon
We’ve locked horns with Edwardstone a few times and have come out on top on each occasion, including in this race last season. You obviously have to respect Alan’s horse, and Boothill is a class act in his own right, but we are very happy with our horse at home. But Edwardstone is a three-time Grade 1 winner, so we have to be on our A-game if he is on his.
Mister Coffey
The handicapper has given him a chance here, and hopefully, he can take advantage of it. We all know he hasn’t won for a while and needs to take to this challenge, but his falling mark gives him a good chance in a competitive Cross-Country race. We could have done without top weight Conflated being confirmed, though, as that puts us 3lb out of the handicap.
