12.45 Kempton

First Street

He has obviously not shown his hurdling level of form over fences just yet, but he has dropped to a mark of just 130 now, so we are giving it another go. He didn’t run badly when fourth in a Beginners’ Chase at Warwick in May, trip and ground are fine, and it is just a matter of whether he can put it all together in this sphere. Hopefully, a tweak to his wind will help, too.

1.20pm Kempton

Hyland

He has really blossomed over fences, winning his last two at Cheltenham, but he obviously steps it up another level to Grade 1 company. The Jukebox Man is probably the one to beat after his Newbury win but we are only 1lb shy of him on official ratings, and 3m on decent are our preferred conditions, so I am looking forward to see what he can do on his stiffest task to date.

1.55pm Kempton

Constitution Hill

Let’s put aside all the talk now, and enjoy this race for what it promises to be. One of the most eagerly anticipated contests in the sport in recent years. With all due respect to Burdett Road and Lump Sum, our boy faces a mighty task against a race-fit Lossiemouth getting the 7lb allowance, after an absence of a year. And he has had his well-documented issues since winning this race last season. But we wouldn’t be here if we were not 100 per cent happy with him and let us not forget he was beating State Man by 9 lengths in a Champion Hurdle three starts ago and the runner-up has won six Grade 1s since. These are the days and races you want to be riding in, especially when the horse is Constitution Hill.

3.05pm Kempton

Kientzheim

She obviously showed a lot of ability in bumpers in France, winning a couple, and she has pleased us at home since we have had her. Hopefully, she can take a hand here but she has been off for a while, so let’s see.

3.40pm Kempton

Doddiethegreat

He didn’t take to fences as well as we had hoped here last month, but he returns to hurdles on a decent mark. He has won around here and he is 3lb lower than when fourth in the Betfair Hurdle back in February. At his best, he holds a decent chance at the weights.
